FB Oversight Member Says Free Speech ‘Is Not an Absolute Human Right’
NY Post | 7/16/2021 | Steven NelsonA Facebook Oversight Board member says free speech is “not an absolute human right,” and must be balanced against “other human rights” when deciding what content to censor.
The board member, former Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt, said “free speech is not an absolute human right.”
“It has to be balanced with other human rights,” she said Thursday at a Politico Europe event.
She then wandered away, without naming what, in the name of Helle, those other rights might be. Perhaps listening to a movie in a theater in peace and quiet? Or attending a Politico Europe event without being called an entitled wannabe dictator?
The 20-member Facebook Oversight Board was set up last year to allow corporate executives to claim distance from politically sensitive decisions.
The board in May recommended that the company uphold a continued ban on former President Donald Trump’s account after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
The oversight board includes five Americans and 15 members from Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia.
So, only 1/4 had any chance of being right and in line with our First Amendment, and even those five libs blew it? No surprise.
But that’s just a private company’s oversight (pun intended), right?

It seems to me that the time has come that all platforms have to be, there must be some kind of liability for all platforms to be recognized, and that states be encouraged to adopt specific legislation in that regard for liability and responsibility. And this will provide a model by the way for countries perhaps even as United States, as I believe it may be heading in fact. I don’t think it will take that much effort.”
