Joy To The Fishes?

You know that Three Dog Night song “Joy To The World” ?
Joy to the world
All the boys and girls now
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
Joy to you and me

How can you tell if a fish is joyful?
I guess the question I should ask is how stoned do you have to be to be concerned if a fish is joyful?
“Hey, man, joy to the fishes.”
“Pull over, Leroy. I think I ought to drive.”
“No, really. Joy to the fishes.”
“What, you’re Vegan now? I don’t care. We’re still going to Red Lobster. Now shut up!”
“I’m tryin to tell you – joy to the fishes.”
“Just sit tight, Leroy. We’re just a few minutes from the hospital.”
Then there’s the bit about If I were the king of the world.”I
I’d be very concerned if the King Of The World were worried whether fish were joyful.
Although, to tell you the truth, it would be a vast improvement on old Wahab thugs like King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.

  1. NSA tappings ruled illegal
The surprise ruling — in which Judge Anna Diggs Taylor said it was “never the intent of the framers to give the President such unfettered control — raised new questions about the broad authority President Bush has claimed since the Sept. 11 attacks for secret new intelligence programs. Her decision came on the same day a federal jury in North Carolina convicted a former Central Intelligence Agency contract interrogator on charges of illegally beating a detainee shortly before the man died in Afghanistan in 2003. More important, the ruling followed a Supreme Court decision in June that the Administration’s use of military tribunals in Guantanamo was illegal — until this week the biggest blow to Bush’s assertion of broad unilateral powers in the war on terrorism.
    Keep striking out don’t they?
    Ha. Ha. Ha.
Also, LOVE the Ben&Jerrys ad on YOUR site…
“We rank last in providing health insurance for all children. But are 1st in nuclear defense expenditures among industrialized countries”
    Classic.

  2. Babs, your ability to post comments that are completely off-topic amazes me. Unless you’re implying that the NSA wiretaps were utilized to determine the joy or lack thereof of the fishes. If that’s the case, then its a gross misuse of NSA funding.

  3. What’s all this about about the fish being unhappy that NASA put a wiretap on Aquaman? Seems like they might want to keep an eye on a guy in tights who keeps reading their minds. But why would NASA want to spy on Aquaman? Are we being attacked by fish from space? If we are, why didn’t Spacemonkey tell us first? Is Aquaman jamming his monkeybrain? If Babs would just use a little Joy, or Ivory, or Palmolive, or something resembling a soap product, she might smell better. Never mind.

LOL!! Em, you ROCK!! :HUGE APPLAUSE!!!:
    STANDING OVATION AS WELL!

  5. Hmm, befriending bullfrogs, wishing joy to fishes – Has anyone seen Aquaman and Three Dog Night together? Might this be a secret identity of a TDN member? If you play the Superfriends theme backwards, is it a TDN song?
    Let’s try…
Da! da da DA DAA da DA DAA!
    (reversing)
DAA! DA da DAA DA da da Da!
    Jeremiah was a Bull Frog!
    Uncanny…

  6. If memory serves, that song was written by the late Hoyt Axton, one of the stranger human beings ever to walk this planet. He also wrote “Greenback Dollar”, and his mother, I think, wrote Elvis’s hit “Heartbreak Hotel”.
Gee, it’s great to be an old fart and know these things.

  7. I think that Babs is a pseudonym from a guy that wants us to think that he’s a bubble headed lib. His real name is probably Basil. Basil is a really smelly herb and it has caused a sinus condition to muddle his thinking.
Or maybe his name is Bart and he’s angry that he’s drawn with that funky hair and three fingers.
Either way, the moronic posts are not really his fault.

  8. I don’t like this song… It cost me my job.
You see, I was hired to do the music at a Church and I was planning the Christmas program. I knew everyone liked “O! Come All Ye Faithful” “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “Joy To The World.”
So, I ordered the music and just about the time I got to “all the boys and girls,” the priest walked up to me and clanked me on the head with the censer.
He told me I was worse than Hitler and that he would personally have the Pope excommunicate me.
No, I don’t think people should be allowed to write songs about wine drinking frogs and give them the same name as popular Christmas Carols. I just don’t think it’s fair.

  9. Jim,
Hoyt Axton also wrote one of my favorite songs (why I did remains a mystery) about Della and the Dealer and the Dog named Jake, and the Cat named Kalamazoo. So it doesn’t surprise me that he wrote other weird crap.

  10. Babs did once bring joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea. You see, she used to like to sail off Puget Sound. One day she didn’t come back. A few days later the cops were at my door saying they had good news and bad news. I told ’em I wanted the bad news first. The replied that they’d just pulled Babs out of the ocean with three crabs stuck to her body. So I asked ’em what the good news was. They said, “When we pull her out again tomorow, we hope to have enough crabs for a crab-boil. …and all the little fishies sang: “Joy to the world…”

  11. Bah! What have you all done with Proletariat Babs?
Do you expect us to believe that her post contained absolutely no phallic references? And no cursing? There weren’t even any mispelled words! Do you think that for one moment Proletariat Babs would cease her revolutionary (as in circular) free-association discourse and resort to a cut & paste response? BAH!, I say to you! BAH!
This is some sort of vile, capitalist trick! We will not stand for this sort of Reuters-like chicanery! You cannot fool our regime with your capitalist trickery! Yes! It may have been a mighty fine whine, but it is the only whine she has!
    RELEASE PROLETARIAT BABS AT ONCE!

  12. Hoyt didn’t write the song. One of the band members wrote. The first part bout Jeremiah being a Bullfrog is true. The Bullfrogs were a musical group. And yes he had some mighty fine wine. Which is probably why there is joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea.

  13. One of the advantages of being 52 years old is that we actually experienced the 60’s and early 70’s. The song you are refering to was made popular by Credence Clearwater Revival, and it is indeed a Hoyt Axton song from his collection childrens songs…

  14. I saw Hoyt Axton on a country music interview show about 20 years ago. He said that those words were knocked out in a hurry when he found out he had some extra time at a recording studio. He already had a tune but no words to go with it. He figured the little nonsense rhyme would help to flesh out the music and that he could write the real words later. Turned out that a nonsense rhyme was just the ticket to appeal to a generation of stoned-out hippies.

  15. “I guess the question I should ask is how stoned do you have to be to be concerned if a fish is joyful?”
    Wade-a-minute…Stop the music.
How stoned do you have to be to be writing a post about a 35 year-old song?
That’s right up there with Naval Contemplation.
