Polls show that a record number of Americans are against the war. Simple solution if you don’t like the war: Don’t fight in it! Seriously, though, one huge difference between Iraq and Vietnam is how most Americans aren’t affected by the war at all. There’s no chance of them or their children randomly getting called out to fight, and most don’t even seem to know anyone in the military. For most people, the war is simply an abstraction that they know of from a few snippets on the news. They don’t like the war… but they also don’t like clam shell packaging. It’s not like they’re going to do anything about it.

I’ve heard the case made that support for the war would be higher if more Americans were involved in it. Every American was involved in World War II, if only in that gasoline, meat, etc., were rationed. Approximately 3,000 members of the US military were killed during the D-Day landing (my father was one of those who survived, miraculously unwounded). While it would be wrong to say that all Americans supported the war, it is correct to say that support for the war was far higher than it is for our war against Islamofascism, which bears a rather disturbing resemblance to the ideologies promoted by Hitler and Mussolini.
I wouldn’t put much stock in a poll coming from CNN, their poles always seem to get the exact result they want to get… Vietnam had a much higher death toll than the current war. The biggest problem in both situations is that from the onset, the American media has been rooting against us under the guise of free speech(Remember the reporter who claimed we were losing the war a few days after we invaded Iraq… Meanwhile we were kickin ass and takin names?). Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing but these guys never realize the consequences of their actions. Real lives are lost while they cheerlead for whoever we are fighting at that particular moment. The worst part of it all is that the people that they are abandoning are those who are making a selfless sacrifice for their ability to hold that microphone and spit garbage…
The MSM is great at portraying everything they don’t agree with in the worst possible fashion. And on the WWII note, I firmly believe that if CNN would have had cameras on Omaha beach or involvement in Europe would have been measured in days… Keep in mind that radio and print media were censored during WW2, a practice we should have carried on to Vietnam and Iraq despite how much the MSM would wine.
I say Sanjaya and Michael Jackson should team up as the new ambiguously gay duo and take on the terrorists. Imagine the fear, nay, Terror, they will feel when confronted with the majesty of a Micheal/Sanjaya dynamic duo. There will be peace in the Middle East.
Unless Prince joins the terrorists.
