Icebreaker: Do You Collect Anything?

I found a list called “The 25 most popular icebreaker questions based on four years of data“. So I’m gonna post a few, and see what happens.

Your mission: answer the question in the comments with a good story.

If you don’t have a good story, you are encouraged to make one up.

Do you collect anything?

The cleverest commenters in the blogiverse.

And witty lurkers who wrongly believe they cannot be one of them.

I remember how scared I was when I left my first comment. Absolutely terrified that I’d be mocked.

Or even worse – ignored.

Everyone starts somewhere. Let this be your day.

  1. “I remember how scared I was when I left my first comment. Absolutely terrified that I’d be mocked.”

    Seriously true.

I Lurched* here for many years.
    (*a lurker who grunts occasionally)
until someone — I forget if it was Frank, Basil, or Harvey — posted a link to some leftist plan to create a nationwide “Day of Hacktivism,” prior to the 2008 elections (ironic, in retrospect, isn’t it?). The idea was for everyone to host neighborhood street fairs with hacking seminars and such. They presented a lot of lame ideas.

Well, when I clicked on the link I just couldn’t contain my sarcasm.

I hoped against hope that the mods of this site would understand my frustration with the prog-and-phony show.

I’m embarrassed to remember how long my first post was! Frank in later years imposed a limit on overly-long posts. “If you can’t say it in three sentences,” he said, “don’t say it.” Which I’m clearly not following.

Having jumped in at the deep end, so to speak, the rest has been mostly in the shallow end. Lots of fun making a splash now and then. I’d say, take the plunge.

    • Today’s hoaders are tomorrow’s Smithsonian Institutions, or at least oddballs on American Pickers.

Not to mention millionaires: “Dang it, Mom, where are my collections of baseball cards, early Harleys, Superman #1’s, Depressionware glass, and Star Wars figurines?” “– Oh, that junk? Goodwill!”
