I was thinking about the AOC Green Plan and what it would mean. But I really don’t know enough to come to a good answer. So I started thinking about just a piece of the plan.
Some of us use oil to heat our homes. In the North I think it is probably a majority of the households. So what would have to happen to get rid of heating oil?
First you’d need to replace your furnace with something else. And you wouldn’t need the hot water piping for baseboard heat or perhaps the air flow pipes if you had forced hot air. That is a horrendous cost in itself.
But also the oil trucks wouldn’t be needed. So we’d put the oil truck manufacturers in a bind. And we’d put the oil delivery companies out of business. And we’d put the furnace repair folks out of business. And we’d put the oil wholesalers out of business. And we’d probably put the oil shipping companies out of business, and that might put some ship builders out of business. And railroads that used to carry the oil from one place to another could get rid of their tank cars. And all of the unneeded tank cars and oil trucks and ships and whatever else would probably ruin several steel producers in the future. And all of that just for getting rid of our furnace.
Oh, but if we didn’t want to be entirely stupid we could ship all of that oil overseas. That would save the shipping companies and the railroad tank cars. But of course that means that we’d just be making the problem worse by sending our oil to countries that don’t have the same environmental constraints that we already do.
OK, so let’s just leave our oil in the ground where it belongs. What happens to all of the countries that we now sell it to? They would need to get their oil somewhere, so maybe they would turn to Russia or Iran. And that would lead to them funding governments with which we have issues. And getting their oil there would give those countries leverage over the purchasing countries due to a dependence on their suppliers.
And of course we wouldn’t need oil pipelines or the folks who create and maintain them, and we certainly wouldn’t need oil refineries. And what about the mom-and-pop shops in the towns where the refineries are? Do you think they would be helped or hurt? And how about the taxes that the refineries pay to the towns where they’re located?
And with all of the hundreds of thousands of people affected from the jobs we’ve mentioned, there is no more income. And they can’t all be retrained to build solar farms. Besides, Chinese solar panels are quite a bit cheaper than American or other panels for the same watt output. Who’s going to get that business? Using American vs Chinese panels could cost the consumer as much more as $1,600 per household for a 6,000 watt system, and that might not be enough for the water heater, lights, dishwasher, washer and dryer, televisions, hair dryer. electric lawn mower, snow blower, car recharger and computer.
And then of course there’s a possible issue with all of the retirements plans that have purchased “energy sector” stocks for their portfolios. They too are going to be losers.
Gosh, this seems like a Green Plan that needs a teensy more work
The GND is the world people looking to buy a black market green card are trying to escape. Socialism is letting your most stupid of enemies create problems for you when they have no ability, desire or tools to ever fix them. Socialism feeds on the scraps of everyone that has a little more than you until those in power have the real threat of having a lot less life to live.

A “teensy more work” now there’s an understatement if I ever heard one.

Well, they could learn how to code.
