Wow, that was a big one!
RightWingDuck here with breaking news available only to me and the millions of people who live here in Southern California. We just had a pretty good earthquake.
What do you guys do when you have an earthquake?
Well, in grammar school, we learned to get under the tables and cower in fear, with our hands over our heads (better than a helmet baby). Nowadays, what we do is we look at each other asking, “Is that an earthquake? Are you shaking the table? No? Then it’s an earthquake.”
There’s always one person who panics and shrieks so loud it frightens all your coworkers. Sorry about that. Then, the next step is to guess how strong it was and turn on the news to see if you were right.
I could never live in California. Those earthquakes are scary.
Well, the first one is kind of dramatic. But then you go with the flow. Personally, I could never live in Florida -(Hurricanes). Kansas (Tornados) or Utah (No beer)
What’s it feel like afterwards?
Well, your knees are shaky for a short while and then you go back to business as normal.
How strong was the earthquake?
Preliminary reports (Pasadena websites – no not blogs) says it was a 5.1
How strong is THAT?
Well, in California, enough to make kids squeal and just about enough to knock some bricks off of older buildings. In other countries – it would mean 50,000 dead.
Where have you been, lately?
Experimenting with an Earthquake Machine.
Why do you live in California?
What? And miss all this?

Yeah, unless you’re in the mountains, or in a building, or somewhere where things can fall on your head, earthquakes are the best. You could take your girlfriend out to a field during one and VOILA! A free vibrating bed. Now to get a girlfriend…
Gunlord
That’s why we need an earthquake machine.
LOL @ Are you shaking the table! & Sorry about that!!
funny!
I felt it down here in HB.
RWD- Did you sense it ahead of time and take flight?
At first I didn’t realize it was an earthquake, I thought spacemonkey had finally posted the Carnival Of Comedy.
No, just a crappy earthquake.
Felt it here in San Diego. USGS maps on my site.
I used to experience earthquakes when I lived in Anchorage, Alaska, as a kid. Just duck and cover; no big deal.
Didn’t notice it at work in San Diego.
This was a nice, long rolling quake. Once noticed can be very enjoyable. Felt this one in Diamond Bar. Was really hoping that this was the start of the apocalypse.
“Where have you been lately?”
“Experimenting with an earthquake machine.”
-Now THAT was funny!!!!
“In other countries – it would mean 50,000 dead. ”
I’m SO glad I wasn’t drinking anything when I read that! Super-funny RWD!
It wasn’t as strong as last Sunday’s quake that actually woke me up. I just slept right through this one. Yes, I was at work, what’s your point?
Hey, I just noticed how similar “quake” and “quack” are… just sayin’.
Anyway good luck with the machine, I know some places you could put it to good use.
Lots of funny lines there Duckster, you still got it.
Earthquake list
Sorry I’d rather have a Hurrican warning. I grew up in S. Florida (back in the days when the street signs were in English only) I have to say check out this pos (not mine) as it will explain the benefits of Hurricanes over anything else.

Utah gets earthquakes too – supposedly. When I was in junior high they kept telling us “the big one” was fifty years overdue. Still hasn’t happened…
In other countries – it would mean 50,000 dead.
It’s funny because it’s true!
Hey, wait! That’s kind of not funny.
Stupid non-capitalists…
Great post, Ducky!
Ha Ha.. Utah… yea we do suck
So, basically, you guys handle earthquakes the way we downstate Illinoisans handle tornados.
“Can we go out on the porch and watch?”
“We could, if we had popcorn.”
One way to tell if a person is from an earthquake prone area such as California.
If the ground starts shaking, they look up. Tourists look at the ground afraid its going to open up and swallow them like it does in all those movies, residents look up knowing that the sky might really just be falling..or at least the skyscraper.
Interesting. I was in Ranch Cucamunga when it happened. Felt the first big jolt, then it kind of rolled. (Or was that rolling just me? Slept not even two hours that morning.)I was under someone’s house framing for some footings, so yah, I was looking up!
Durn thing happened not too far from where I live. I was so hoping it was a big one in the ocean and there would be some tsunami to take out Hollywood. Alas, it was from the other direction.
