Now Look Into the Camera and Cry

For some reason, this reminds me of those “spontaneously grieving” Cindy Sheehan shots.
Here we have two pictures of the same event, probably taken moments apart. The Detroit News on top, and the AP on the bottom. Who knows HOW many photogs were there altogether. Yet we’re supposed to buy the sincerity of Marilyn Pace’s tear-wiping?:

Anyway, comparing the two pictures, I find myself pondering a few items:
* Why is AP Obama green?
* Is it just me, or did the AP fix the girl’s makeup and give her a tan?
* Soft focus background? I thought that was just for 40’s film noir?
* What’s up with Quasimobama’s Hunchback of Illinois look?
Anything troubling YOU about these shots?
BONUS:
Barack sure is lucky that a Muslim girl just happened to be in the neighborhood when it came time to stage THIS delightfully multicultural slice of Kumbaya diversity:

AP:

Which is in odd contrast to this story about him not wanting to be photographed with Muslim women wearing headscarves.
Maybe it’s more of a “no fat chicks” thing?

  1. Spacemonkey,
The object on his right wrist looks like one of the metal bracelets with the info from a MIA or trooper who was killed. They usually have the rank, name, branch of service and a date the trooper went MIA or was KIA.
I would be interested in the story behund who the trooper is and why he wears it.

  2. Is it just me or is he using a technique pick-up artists use called “social proof”. The idea being if you’re seen with women, other women will find you more attractive.
#3 – why is he wearing 2 watches? ‘Cause there are A LOT of lobbyists out there and only so many different gifts they can get.

  3. “Why is Obama wearing a watch on each wrist?”
His handlers found that, other than the skanky, white, realiTV ho subset, the white demographic doesn’t generally respond well to one big clock worn around the neck. So, it’s a trade-off.

  4. #6 – if that’s what it is, he got the idea from McCain. He wears one and talked about it many times. Maybe in an effort to not be outdone, the Obamination is wearing one too, which would be an insult to the soldier.

  5. Why is he wearing two watches?
Obama is obviously just one of those poor people who has trouble adding and subtracting numbers in his head. One watch is probably set for his home time in Washington DC, and the other is set for the local time for the place he is in. Anyone who asks, why not just wear one watch, and add or subtract how many time zones you are away from Washington, is a racist who is picking on Obama for not being able to do math.

I think you may have something there #9. On Lifetime, first McCain did a commercial spot where he talks to the camera about “Army Wives.”
A week or so later, BHO did a nearly identical spot too…wearing the elusive flag pin. I know, I barfed too when I first saw it, and every time I see it since I change the channel.

  7. How big of a crate does he have to stand on in order to look taller than these chicks?

The chicks are all on their knees. BO, however, is on his tip-toes.

  8. Harvey: on a few of your questions:
    * Why is AP Obama green?
AP & Detroit Free Press are using different color temperatures / corrections on their photos. That makes them look different. If you look closely, it’s in both pictures, and much more than just Obama is greener. (Where is your resident photoshop expert? He’s pretty good with this type of thing.)
    * Is it just me, or did the AP fix the girl’s makeup and give her a tan?
probably 90%+ of the tan is the photoshop tint stuff, but they may have played, esp. given your other observations
    * Soft focus background? I thought that was just for 40’s film noir?
Have you ever seen those guys at sporting events with the lenses so big that you could fit a midget in ’em? And with, at best, a monopod to hold up those beasts? The tighter grouping in the AP photo shows that it was shot from further back than the DFP one, and telephotoed in. When you do that, unless you have a solid tripod, you have to speed up the shot by letting more light in (wide open aperture.) Wide open aperture + long telephoto = background blur. I don’t have the eye to know if that’s good bokeh with an expensive many-bladed aperture or bad bokeh with a cheap few-bladed one, but usually a pro who would stalk a presidental candidate would spring for some decent tools.
    * What’s up with Quasimobama’s Hunchback of Illinois look?
Yeah, the shoulder pads in the suit. . . well, a guy’s gotta spend time campaigning, not buildin’ muscles by movin’ dirt on the levees. . .

  9. Curious that on the big day where she was going to see/meet the messiah that she did not wear eye makeup. Was the whole break down staged? Raccoon eyes do not look good on national television. Just a thought….

  10. Capitalist_B (#23) has beaten me to answering your rather silly questions on the photography, but noone has yet pointed out that the “story about him not wanting to be photographed with Muslim women wearing headscarves” was in actual fact a story about some of his volunteers making that decision for him.
I’m neutral, haven’t made up my mind yet, but I’m not a big fan of people from one side or the other backing up false information with sources that contradict the initial lies. So don’t do it. For once we have a Presidential battle between two people strong enough to fight a POLITICAL battle – let’s not descend into partisan imaginary-turd-slinging, even if that is your strong suit 😉

  11. If it weren’t for the turd-slinging this site would be just like a thousand others. Bor-ring!
Neutrality is proper in referees, umpires and judges.
Neutrality in a player is disloyal to the team.
Neutrality in a fan in the stands?
Why’d you even come to the game?
