Question

I keep seeing ads from this T. Boone Pickens guy talking about alternative energy, and I guess we’re supposed to listen to him because he’s super rich. But if he’s so rich, why can’t he afford himself a less ridiculous name?

UPDATE: I should mention that I’m just a goof who makes jokes. No one takes me seriously.

“Ha ha. There’s that Frank J. saying something stupid again.”

In reality, though, I have great respect for T. Boone Pickens and all other IMAO advertisers.

  1. Don’t make fun of T. Boone. At least it’s an American name unlike B.H.O. Not to mention that Mr. Pickens has a plan. It may be stupid, it may be expensive, it may be unusable but at least he has the courage of his convictions and the guts to stand behind them, something BO doesn’t seem to think is necessary.

I say we do a do over and nominate two different losers, they have to be better than the nimrods we have now

  2. He did change it, Frank.
    It was T. Nose Pickins.

Seriously, the plan isn’t too bad, but I object to the premise that we are ‘addicted’ to oil.

Using foreign oil while refusing to harvest our own resources is an addiction to stupidity.

Petroleum energy wasn’t developed because of the widespread notion that we were ‘addicted to horse power’, or ‘hooked on whale oil’.

When a better choice is avaliable, a free market will make that choice-
    if we still have one.

If Mr. Pickins can get his investments in solar etc.
to be a financial winner through his advertising,
he will make $billions more. Good for him.

  4. T. Boone Pickens is spending a small fortune in hopes of making a much bigger fortune. There is no altruistic climate change non-sense behind his adds. He is after cold hard cash, and boatloads of it. Do a search for “T. Boone Pickens real reason” or something similar, and you will find there are a few people that remember why journalism was once a respected profession. Follow the $$$$$$$$$$.

  5. Hey y’all I’m confused. Isn’t making money the basic idea behind capitalism. Since when is trying to get folks to buy your product by convincing them they need it greedy and dishonest. Anyone who thinks a company, or any one else who wants to get you to do something is just in it for the “tingly” feelings they get, is naive in the extreme.

After all look at all the altruists on the Liberal side of the isle. None of them is making money off “global warming” right. If there’s a buck to be made either from work or the lack there of, our liberal brothers and sisters are at the front of the line.

Even charities have huge bureaucracies that run them. They’re not staffed by volunteers. Somebody has to run the offices, handle the money, manage the advertising, decide who gets what money and how much, and these people need to eat, have shelter and provide for families too.

So while I’m not a fan of T. Boone I’m also not going to insist he not make money off an opportunity.

  6. seanmahair,

While I often agree with your postings, I have to disagree with you on this one.

The problem with what T. Boone Pickens is doing is that it’s based on a lie. It’s fraudulent.

What if he was taking out ads stating that all of the world’s children have been infected with a mysterious disease and that it can only be cured with his snake oil? That wouldn’t be capitalism, that would be fraud…and that’s exactly what he’s doing by promoting the fraudulent lie that everyone’s families are in danger unless you buy his product.
