Looks like the health care bill is going to pass. It will be yet another bloated program anchoring down our country until it eventually succumbs and sinks. Personally, I don’t think it will happen in my lifetime, but whenever there is another liberty-based revolution, I hope they look back on us and learn from our mistakes.
Anyway, it’s all probably inevitable. Freedom is scary and complicated, and the future is heading towards things being simpler and user-friendly — like an iPhone. Freedom is more like Linux command line. Someone will stare it and go, “What do I do with this?”
And you’ll excitedly say, “Whatever you want!”
And they’ll stare at it some more and say, “I can’t do anything with this.” Then they’ll head back to what they know: Windows Vista. It works simply for most things most of the time. Sometimes it fails horribly and there’s nothing you can do. And it’s large and bloated — but again, nothing you can do about that. And now Windows has added some large new feature set that slows down everything and messes up lots of your existing programs and it will automatically download so, once again, there is nothing you can do about it.
Man, I hate big government and Windows Vista.
So, anyway, once Obamacare passes, Republicans can campaign to repeal it, but I don’t know how realistic that would be. They probably couldn’t really do it until we have a Republican president, and then too many people might be dependent on the program for that to be politically feasible. So it’s just more of America slouching towards collapse. It’s kinda like how eventually Windows will become so bloated it will eventually be unusable for even the simplest of functions. You can try and uninstall some of the programs, but that will just mess up other things dependent on them. You have to format and start over.
Anyway, not there yet, but we’ll know it when we get there. Hope we saved the original install disks.
I liken our future to something more like Mac OS. Pro-users keep claiming that it’s the best and that it “just works” and everything seems find. But this one day you have a problem and God help you if you think you’ll actually fix it.
fine=fine
Holy crap. find=fine. Maybe a better analogy would be folks who neglect the preview button …
Wow. Thanks, Captain Bringdown! My two most hated things that torment me on a daily basis…..big gov. and Win Vista
Yup, freedom and liberty were fun. I hope hairy reid dies an incredibly painful and slow death. The lousy pos. him and that classless disgrace in the white house. I hope that both of those commie besturds have to look look at nancy pelousy the whole time they are dying. It would serve the pos right.
Donate to the opponents of harry reid, blanche lincoln, mary ladreiew, and ben nelson. Join their campains, lets get rid of these commies!!
windows and democraps, there needs to be a cure.
Here lies the United States of America, a once great nation taken away so young. May she rest in peace. 1776-2008
I agree with hillbilly mama, I hate big gub-mint and M$ windows. I do not allow big gub-mint or M$ windows in my house. I use Linux and do not use big gub-mint (unless they start giving away cool military surplus weapons, which would put me on board with big gub-mint!).
Knock that crap off, IH8. America and her ideals live on forever in the hearts of those who love freedom.
I’m building a colony on Mars until things clear up down here. You’re all free to join me. Remember to bring along copies of Silent Hunter 4. I don’t think I could live without that game and I’ll need the multiplayer mode to keep things fresh.
Obama reforms = Vista
Bush reforms = Windows ME
Regan = linux
Current laws are convoluted layers of “reforms” upon “reforms”. Each in turn drummed up by the media in the “great threat of the hour” then a politician or party writes a new law to collect a new taxes but surely aimed only from the boogey man of the day. Then some sort of ceremony is held for the politician to sign a new law or cut a ribbon and then media stop reporting on the matter regardless if it worsens or stays the same. Would the media report if the problem got better thanks to said new laws and taxes? This is unknown simply because it has never happened. So the crowd beleives the problem has been dealt with. Tragically thus with the daily circus of media and politics day by day legal inch by legal inch is human freedom traded to the ruling elite for their promise of safety. Yet the ruling elite have been on the wrong side of every conflict in all of known honestly recorded history. me dec 2009
A great place to start is with a boycott of nebraska, lousy anna, and con-ettei-cut.
present hussein reforms = vista.beta
hairy reid = a failed installation of vista
ben nelson = virus
blanche lincoln = C word
I hope this is stickied. Great analogy, congrats Frank, excerpts of this are now my Facebook status. Too bad we can’t just open Terminal and type in a good ol’ fashioned “sudo apt-get install freedom”. If only Obama would give us the root password…
If you run Windows Vista you are a super massive homosexual! Snow Leopard baby!
MarkoMancuso the Mars Colony sound like a great idea. Frank you need to get to work on a way to send liberals to the Phantom Zone.
Linux? Linux isn’t freedom. Machine code is freedom – no operating system to get in the way. No other software to get in the way. That’s freedom.
Besides, I’ve noticed that using Linux or MacOS tends to turn people into gloating nerds who can talk about nothing other than how wonderful their operating systems are.
What Obama et al are doing is nothing new; the Mafia has done it for centurys. It may FEEL like Vista, but it’s more like the early Radio Shack casette tape BASIC.
Yeah, storm1911, or early paper tape boot loaders – up our keisters.
Awesome analogy, Frank. But you know, even with the iphone, there are ways to open up the hardware. You just have to take it apart and physically screw with it. I’m not sure how that applies to the analogy, but if it involves messy torture of those who vote(d) for this bill, I think I’m still ok with that.
The original discs are the US Constitution and the Declaration of Independence…neither of which could most of our elected politicians identify without a teleprompter, ouija board, and a best 3 out of 5 guesstimate.
Reboot next November and get rid of these traitors to the Republic.
>I liken our future to something more like Mac OS.
Also, it’s made ass-backwards just to spite Windows and like the iPhone it has NO power user features I could discern. Half of the cool stuff it does I’d disable on install, and the moment that fricking buttonless mouse misinterprets a click I’d fling it out of the window.
Unfortunately America is too scared to screw with the BIOS settings for fear that it’ll mess something up. Can’t we just burn a Ubuntu 9.10 Linux Live disk and give it a shot?
Time to run F disc on their asses.
We need a full format and clean install.
Pardon my ignorance, but what’s wrong with public health care? Australia has it, and we’re still free. England, France, Germany. You guys are lagging behind.
Hey, where’d my avatar go?
format dc: /y
Dunno what everyone’s problem with Windows Vista is. I’ve been running it for more than 2.5 years without a lick of problem. It has never froze on me. It has never crashed. I can do what I want when I want without the sort of problems I had with XP and ME. If Windows 7 is better than Vista, I don’t envision a problem there either.
Can a nation whose sovereignty rests (officially, legally, and so forth) in its people ever really collapse? They didn’t ship all the Russians out of Russia when the USSR collapsed, after all. But the Russians never owned their own country.
We do, and always have.
When DC Central collapses, maybe, just maybe, Americans will be free again. Sort of like losing your GUI but still having that wonderful terminal feature in Linux. (“Wonderful,” she says, when she hasn’t a clue how to really use it…yet. Great comparision!)
We can do it, and we will be okay, more so than any other country in the world. Why do I believe this? Because I saw all the flags come out after 9/11 in a country that went through the hateful Sixties, spine-sapping Seventies, coked-up Eighties, and corruption-as-a-lifestyle Nineties. And I watched much of the media, which had been so instrumental in the whole divide-and-conquer process, start pulling their own house down around them (process ongoing still) when they started telling people to put the flags away.
I was scared at first that most people would…but they never did. And we none of us ever will.
The transition back to American freedom will be terrible, though. Pity we ever started down this route back…oh, who knows how far back it goes. Me, I blame our getting into the Spanish-American war. A little too late to do anything about that now…but at least they weren’t stupid enough to try to burden the generation that would choose their nursing homes, etc., with the bill.
PS: Regarding Vista, well, I shouldn’t toot my own horn on somebody else’s blog and FrankJ can delete this if he wants, but if I get started on that
worthless piece ofWindows version, I can’t stop. So, FWIW (and that’s not much, since I’m a newbie and missed so much and didn’t even think to mention Armor App, etc., ) here’s a three-part series about what Vista means to me and why I turned to Linux:http://www.scribd.com/doc/19033942/My-Linux-Adventure-Part-1-Introduction
http://www.scribd.com/doc/19076601/My-Linux-Adventure-Part-2-Choosing-a-Distro
http://www.scribd.com/doc/19733926/My-Linux-AdventurePart-3-Hacked-and-Struggling-With-Virtualization
http://www.scribd.com/doc/22218174/My-Linux-Adventure-Coda
Yes, it’s a three-part series in four parts. Freedom is like that.
Also, maybe these links will inspire FrankJ to brighten up ScribD.com with his presence (a search for “Frank J Fleming” didn’t bring up anybody). That would be more than awesome. (It’s about writing more than politics, though, so maybe not.)
You can pry my two Macs, my iPhone, and my Ruger 357 from my cold dead hands.
#24 – Adross,
If you had the gang we’ve got designing Your healthcare, you’d be mad too.
