The Plague of ‘A’ Students

P.J. Rourke has a good article on the problem we’ve had with A students running everything lately.

Now I’m an A student, but I’m like a super-duper extra smart one so I’m okay and won’t screw things up. See, I’m so smart that I know I’m smart and not to question myself because why would I come up with bad ideas with how smart I am. Like nuking the moon; that’s not just so smart no one else would come up with it, it’s practical.

So you should put me in charge if you want real smart solutions that involve space and robots and dinosaurs, not this faux-smart crap that involves interfering with the economy and adding to government. That’s the smart stuff dumb people do.

  1. No, we’ve let the people who think they’re A students because their parents bought their education and you can’t give a big donor’s kid a “B” run things.

    What’s worse is his example.
“A” students wrote the tax code? Really?

There aren’t enough “ha”s for my “bwa” on that one.
Barney Frank’s staff wrote much of the tax code. If he has an “A” student on his staff, I’d bet it was in Basket Weaving with a minor in Recess.
No, social engineers wrote the tax code. People who want to punish some behaviors (like productivity) and reward others (not working).

Grade inflation makes these idiots think they’re smart and there’s nothing worse than a fool who thinks he’s smart.
    VP Joe Biden, for instance.

  2. Smart is a state of mind. The states that think Obama and crew are smart are out of their mind. Tax code, energy code, banking code, html code, head code; all of these things are unnecessarily complex and intent on crushing and squeezing the life out of producers, and making a smoothie out of that life and letting the slackers and crybabies drink it from gold chalices on their broken-down porches.

INcoherent babbling, but it sounded smart inside my head. Hey, I could write the tax code! Lemme at it.

But I could never write for IMAO; Frank’s smartitude far exceeds mine.

That, and I’m just too busy producing to think of and write all this smart stuff.

  3. Read part of a very old book talking about why the local intelligentsia class was always on the wrong side of every genocide and Empire collapse in all of recorded history. One of the brief points was that simpler people know they can be easily tricked and so are more on guard against it. Where as the “smirt” believe they are too “smirt” to be tricked so think that if they believe it must be right.

I still think my old metaphor about the cows and horses outside standing and lying on the cold hard ground all day every day is why they will sense a tiny tremor warning or sudden odd wind changes long before the obviously more intelligent farmer inside in his soft shoes in a soft chair next to fireplace ever will. In reality when you have less cushion room you feel the bumps and waves a lot more clearly and personally.

  4. As an A student and one of those curve breaking, deadline keeping, test studying older students I have to say there is a vast difference between those who study and work hard and those who take lame classes and get by on their race, sex or sport.

A truly educated person know how truly ignorant they are. That’s the most important thing I learned in college……. how much I didn’t know. Arrogance, hubris and elitism is to blame for the disarray of “the one” and his cabal. He isn’t an A student, he’s a F student as in Fake, Flake, Fraud and Fool.

    My new mantra “molon labe”
