Clarification

In a comment thread regarding the Ground Zero mosque, Fishboy feigns ignorance:

I’m still bemused – no-one seems to be able to say *why* it’s poor taste.

Fishboy – let me take a stab at this:

They’re building a Muslim house of worship at a site where innocent Americans were killed by Muslim terrorists.

If 9/11 were the work of Irish terrorists, building an Irish pub there would be in poor taste for the same reason.

  1. And I’ll step it up a bit… some folks say “would you oppose a church near the OKC federal building because McVeigh was a Christian?“.

No, because he didn’t do it in the name of Christianity. It was a revenge fantasy against the feds for the burning of the Branch Davidians in Waco. The motivation was anti-government.

And although I like New Hampshire’s state motto, I would oppose erecting a 15 story billboard saying “Live Free or Die” if it were two blocks from OKC.

Because it would be in poor taste.

  2. The only way to NOT understand why this is in poor taste is to have absolutely no knowledge of the Muslim religion and its world history, including where they build their victory mosques. So, Fishboy is most likely a college student that isn’t “burdened” by the memories of things that happened before his birth and only knows the bumper-sticker anti-American slogans his high school teachers and college professors fed him. Funny, when I was in school we questioned everything teachers or professors tried to shove down our throats…nowadays, these wimps are just passive lumps of clay, waiting to be molded into little mindless propaganda machines by their “teachers”. Pathetic.

  3. The fact that so many people really are so damn stupid they don’t get why it’s in poor taste, to put it mildly, is the reason it’s even got as far as it has. The intentional dumbing down of America is almost complete and irreversible and things like this are like standardized tests to make sure it’s worked. I don’t know how much more proof they need, they have Obama. (woo hoo still not a word according to Firefox, this thing is sooo raaaacist!)

  4. @ Son of Bob:

The problem with teachers today is that they don’t want you to be a free thinker. They want you to be a ball of clay that they can mold into their liberal image. I had a teacher in HS who stopped calling on me about 2 months into the school year because I corrected her misinformation. While in college I have had multiple instructors either ignore me or change the subject when they found out that I didn’t blindly follow their opinions which they told as facts. The problem is as a conservative in a college that is 85% or more dem/liberal I am shunned because I am willing to speak out and more than once have had to fight to get the grades I earned because the professor took exception to my stances.

If you only ever hear one side of the story, it’s not surprising that this kid has been brainwashed by the PC left, some day he’ll be mugged by reality and realize the errors of his way. But for the time being he is just a puppet of the fringe left and with a name like “fishboy” he probably likes fish sticks too….. (south park reference)

  5. Actually, it’s worse than that: They are building a Muslim house of worship on the site where innocent Americans were killed by Muslim terrorists SEEKING TO SPREAD THE RULE OF ISLAM BY FORCE. They destroyed what the Americans built, and will now replace it with a mosque. Mission accomplished!

  6. Nazis did what they did because of Nazism. McVeigh did what he did because of Anarchism. Rosie O’Donnell did to herself what she did because of gluttony. The point is, 9/11 terrorists didn’t just happen to be Muslims, the did what they did because they were Muslims. Islam mandated this murderous act.

  7. @Duke of Earl,

Sad, isn’t it? Remember when universities used to pride themselves on being bastions of free thinking?

When those graduating with degrees from universities are on the same intelligence level as Hollywood actors, clearly something went terribly wrong with universities.

  8. I think fishboy knows exactly why it’s in bad taste. He/she/it appears to be real good at pushing buttons. He/she/it is properly rolling on the floor laughing somewhere.
The alternative, he/she/it doesn’t really know why it in bad taste would mean he/she/it’s IQ was lower then my pet rocks and therefor would not understand how to turn the computer on or use a browser.

  9. I just got home from Tipsy McStaggers and the proprietor will be happy to re-locate his fine taproom at the site Formerly Known As GZM. In fact, I passed the hat around and am happy to report that I can chip in $11.62 to the GZIP (after I get my next unemployment check).

  10. Bad enough that Islamic terrorist attacked and killed 3,000 innocent people, then those in Muslim countries decided to celebrate those deaths with new and interesting threats to our safety and way of life.
One does remember -death to the infidel (that’s us, just in case anyone is confused.
    -death to America
    – America the great Satan

I’m not sure why anyone is surprised by the majority of Americans being opposed to an “Islamice Center” at Ground Zero. It’s kind of like asking Lindsey Lohan to bartend your next party. Or maybe asking Charlie Sheen to be the house mother to a sorority. Just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense and as far as tolerance and communication go it’s obvious that the only ones in this debate who need practice in those virtues are the ones pushing the mosque. Tolerance my great aunts bussel.
