Reminder: Conceal Carry Is Not Theoretical

A bill to allow conceal carry on campus had passed the House in Idaho. That seems to me a good reason to make sure Buttercup goes to a local college instead of one that would make her defenseless. Of course, lots of people don’t see it that way and are freaking out saying everyone is going to start shooting each other.

Here’s a point we can’t make frequently enough: Conceal carry is no longer theoretical. There are 40 states with right to carry. There are plenty of campuses where conceal carry is currently allowed. That means you can’t just mouth off about what you think is going to happen when conceal carry is allowed in a new area. It doesn’t matter what you think is going to happen because there are plenty of real-world examples. We’ve had conceal carry for decades. If all the horrible scenarios gun control advocates dream up had any basis any reality, they should be able to point to tons of examples by now. So either point to a real world example to argue with or shut up.

Again, two options when arguing against conceal carry:

1) Point to an actual example of conceal carry leading to people shooting each other that you want to avoid.
2) Shut up and admit that your fears have never come true in reality and thus you have a poor understanding of human behavior which means its best you excuse yourself from all political discussions.

Simple, yo.

  1. I used to live the next county over from Virgina Tech. I had friends and children of friends who live and work there. I would do almost anything to have had a concealed carry student at the right place and the right time on 4-16-07. My daughter will have her CC permit next year and daddy will show her how to shoot to kill. Never walk like a victim.

  2. I have already mentioned that Pennsylvania’s Castle Doctrine has passed the Senate and is getting ready for the House, but I want to repeat that:

I DON’T HAVE TO RETREAT ANYMORE, CRIMINALS. YOU’RE GONNA GET YOURS NOW!

  3. I reside in Illinois where there is no carry, open or concealed allowed. In theory I don’t carry concealed. The criminal that tests that theory with me may or may not like the outcome. Id rather be tried by 12 than carried by six. I carried concealed legally and professionally throughout the US for many years and am a former NRA LE Firearms Instructor. The right to self defense is inalienable and not “given” to me by the State or the Feds, but by my existence.

  4. Called just yesterday about setting up a class time, 25$ for the class 10$ fingerprints and I think $65 with your paperwork/background check for I think 5 years.

I have friend who as an off duty cop killed an immigrant who was rampage shooting in the mall. He was there with his pregnant wife.

He later lost his job because some white trash lady wanted her “pay day” lawyered up and he lost his job. One thing about religious red states with small towns they really hate controversy and will abandon their principles and throw people under the bus to avoid it.

  5. Anything that has less of a chance of accidentally killing me then driving really is not a major issue for me. Hell I live mere feet from half the US stockpile of chemical weapons.

Living in fear of death is a good way miss out on life. I’m getting the concealed carry because my wife deserves to have me do whatever I can to protect her.

  6. It’s all liberals projecting themselves onto everyone else. Liberals hate a lot, and if someone put gun in their hands, they would be unable to refrain from shooting everyone in sight. There are plenty of real-world examples of this.

I guess we should be grateful that most of them bar themselves from owning guns.

  7. Hoplophobes crave a nanny government for cradle to grave care, and anyone not a part of that is seen as threat.

You go that right, Terrible Troy. I reside in the same state as Basil, and we have CC, Castle, and No Retreat. and it keeps gettting better.

  8. “Shut up and admit that your fears have never come true in reality and thus you have a poor understanding of human behavior which means its best you excuse yourself from all political discussions.”
But then how would the smug liberals be able to show how incredibly, ridiculously smart they are? What’s the point in being smarter than everyone else if you aren’t allowed to tell everyone you’re smarter than them?

@TerribleTroy, to your north, in Wisconsin, we made our AG rule on the fact that not allowing open carry, while also not allowing concealed carry, effectively infringed upon our constitutionally protected 2nd Ammendment right to bear arms. He was forced to issue an advisory to law enforcment agencies that open carry is allowed in Wisconsin, but that doesn’t stop law enforcment from harassing law-abiding citizens. We’re still working on concealed carry.

  9. So how quickly can you get Buttercup up to speed on the .50 caliber? A couple of speed loaders should fit nicely in her diapers and a snub nose would cute with a pink grip! If she needed the business end of the gun, one shot and the evil-doers would fill their pants and run like the dickens and Buttercup could giggle like crazy!!!

  10. It’s an exceedingly excellent point; and one I am going to make frequently from now on. Crime continues to go *down*, especially where people can carry. My state is never going to allow us to carry, I don’t think – you can’t imagine how terrified the people here are of firearms in general. So I’m willing to settle for *open* carry – I mean, the whole point is NOT to have to shoot anyone, right? Who’s gonna mess with you when you’re openly carrying a gun?

  11. I’m in the same boat wiht Crabby Old Bat, but at least I’m no longer in Massamachusetts where possession of an unregistered Red Ryder BB gun will get you a mandatory 1 year in jail.

What I’m saying is that the whole concept of being allowed to purchase a handgun and carry it is entirely foreign to me. Good on the rest of you.

  12. Back in the 70’s there were numerous firearms in our college fraternity house in upstate NY.
We didn’t think anything of it. Some hunted, some had them for target shooting. And plinking cans at the sandpit.
