Nuke the News: Newt Still Surging, Obama Gives Up on Whitey, and Angry Babies

* In a Rasmussen poll, Newt Gingrich beats Obama 45% to 43%. He’s the most electable!

Jim Geraghty has a round up of all the crazy, non-conservative stuff Gingrich has said before. You do have to wonder sometimes why he’s the more conservative choice to Mitt Romney. Maybe it’s just that the left hate him so much; we always take that as a good sign.

Reader Jimmy pointed out, though, that the last Speaker of the House to be president was Polk, America’s most effective one term president (got everything he wanted done the first term so he didn’t run again). Maybe that’s a good sign.

* Obama has decided to abandon the white working class. Instead, he’s going to try to make a coalition between college professors on one end and poor minorities on the other. So basically people who like to think they’re smart (and thus don’t want to be one of those people — the Republicans) and people who aren’t supposed to have any choice but vote for the Democrat because of their skin color. I’m not sure this is a coalition built to last into the far future. Then again, if you’re planning for the really far future, who the parties should really be working to appeal to are robots and monkey-men.

* Hard line Islamists are surging in the Egyptian polls. That’s great, because the one thing I’ve said we’ve always needed in the Middle East is more enemy states.

Are things ever going to improve in the Middle East? Maybe it’s the oil. It’s bad juju. We should steal it all from them for their own good.

* The Obama administration has sealed the records on the Border Patrol agent murdered by the guns from Fast and Furious. But that doesn’t mean there’s anything bad to hide. I mean, it was just the federal government selling weapons to Mexican drug cartels; how much could have gone wrong with that?

* So how is the economic situation? Well, Congress moved quickly to restore the horse-slaughter industry. We just need to make sure we have killing and eating horses as an option for what’s coming ahead. Fido is safe for now, but Obama could get another term.

* New scientific study reveals that babies are vindictive. It’s true. I once told Buttercup “No!” when she tried to play with the remote control, and now she just quietly glares at me whenever I enter the room. How old are kids usually before they learn how to murder?

  1. The horse thing is a good move. Law of unintended consequences: horses slaughtered in the US were treated humanely in accordance with standards. After they were shipped to Mexico which is a nightmare (no pun intended).

  2. Actually, Polk vowed before his election to serve only one term – a promise he kept. Not only that, he had the good taste to die shortly after leaving office, unlike more recent Democrat presidents who hang around for decades serving no real purpose other than being a general pain in the ass.

  3. hwuu, I’m 51% sure that SarahK is not a swarthy Muslim bride, so you might want to retract that.

btw, ads nowadays target your browsing history, so the more appropriate question is, what have YOU been doing lately for the internet to think you are interested in swarthy Muslim brides? Hmmm? You might want to flush your browser and flash cookies. Mmmm, cookies.

  4. John Bolton was awesome and universal DNA testing is a terrible idea, but I was expecting a lot worse quotes from Gingrich. He’s like an everyday smart guy whose cleverness can get the better of him. He’s also not afraid to voice his opinion and admit when he’s wrong, which is remarkable for a politician. Dear Lord, it sounds like I support him. That can’t be right.

  5. It should read “people who like to think they’re smart”. Perhaps that shows you to be a Republican, but does me pointing this out mean I’m a closet Democrat. I still end sentences with prepositions, so I think I’m still ok.

  6. Thanks for explaining that, hwuu. You guys crack me up. 🙂

“Newt Gingrich: Serial Hypocrisy” by Ron Paul (!1 and so on) actually sounds a lot worse than Geraghty’s roundup. It must be the music that does it for me:

Good point about the mandate, Burma. Gringrich is too clever for our own good. I feel better not supporting him now. But who does that leave? Do poopless sandwiches even exist? Are we asking too much?

  7. Polk was a compromise candidate who had to promise to serve only one term to get nominated. People tried to talk him into staying, but he honored his word. He was healthy when he left office. He got sick on his victory lap tour of America on the way home, and died shortly after he got there. He was an ex-President for three times the length of William Henry Harrison’s Presidency.

After Polk, you can make a great argument that the four worst Presidents in American history followed. Taylor (although it is hard to screw things up too much in 16 months), Fillmore, Pierce and Buchanan.

In addition to being a great President, he was a very effective speaker. Probably only Henry Clay was better.

  8. * Obama has decided to abandon the white working class. Instead, he’s going to try to make a coalition between college professors on one end and poor minorities on the other.

No surprise..The Greatest One Ever knows his audience of allegiance. Professors (the apostles of this messiah) are indebited to him for all the work he has done to appease their unions, which understand that tenure is so much more important than misguided ideas of teaching for results and readiness. The poor, (and not just minorities), are indebted to him for all the work he has done to guarantee that hand-out society in which they, like their parents before them, will live out their days without ever having to hold a job! But fear not! He has not abandoned the white working class ! Indeed, he has done all he could to make sure that we, too, can see the day where we join the poor! The day when we wake up with no responsibilty because Mother America will take care of all our needs! Then, and only then, we will ALL enjoy his policies (except for the 1%, whom we will make pay for it all)

  9. @DamnCat: You white employed humans are such a disappointment to Obama.

Yep. Too lazy to want to work for the permanently unemployed and government-employed, and too RACIST!!1!1! to understand why we should. Not to mention too greedy to willingly subsidize useless college degrees.

  10. Any time you guys need a bride of any type, just let me know. I am daily beating them off with a stick being the major league stud muffin that I am! You can’t blame the dames, they are just flesh and blood and I am like The Most Manly Man in the World! I think the large bulge also has something to do with it. But what’s a guy to do? I can send you short, tall, blonde, red, dark, Indian, African American, Mexican… Just name your poison! A small donation will be required with a hefty deposit into my bank account and your lovely bride will be on the way! I will hog-tie her and box her up myself. FedEx usually works out the best. I punch a couple of holes in the box and then stuff a sock in her fat yap and duct tape her mouth shut!

  11. I am convinced that a major factor in getting elected president is how much it ticks off the opposing faction. How else can you explain Clinton, W, or Obama? I suspect Perry’s Texas accent and Gingrich’s prior demonization under Clinton had at least 5-10 points of support behind it for this reason alone.

We’ll see what the future holds for Egypt and the rest of the Arab Spring mess. I’m not sure the nuclear program progress is driving the targeted attacks on Iran so much as Arab Spring elections. The results for Israel aren’t much different if it’s one big bomb or 50 millon small ones.
