Nuke the News: We’re All Clear Ron Paul Is an Unelectable Nut, Right?

* Man, I am about done with politics for the year? How about you?

* Let’s just say it again because it can’t be emphasized enough: Ron Paul is an unelectable nut, and if you don’t understand that, you’re a crazy person. Do we really have to bring up the racist newsletters written in his name (racists and anti-Semites love Ron Paul and he seems quite keen not to discourage them… along with truthers)? CNN brought them up, and Ron Paul’s reaction? Run away!

And then there is that blame America first impulse that has no place in the Republican Party. For instance, his instinct was to proclaim Wikileaks traitor Bradley Manning as a hero.

And do you know he’s previously endorsed Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney for president?

Nut.

Unelectable.

And if you don’t understand that, you have no place in politics.

Still, I kind of hope he wins Iowa so we can’t once again make fun of how stupid and pointless these early primary states are.

* New poll actually shows Romney leading in Iowa, and he’s spent nearly no time there. The guy has good organization. I find I’m slowly starting to think to myself, “This Romney guy is actually pretty good.” It’s like the end of the book 1984. “I love Big Brother!” If you can’t change things, might as well take the bullet to the brain and embrace them.

* Newt Gingrich told a gay person that if your number one issue is gay marriage, he’s probably not the candidate for you. And this is news? Well, other outlets portrayed it as, “Newt tells gay people don’t vote for him!” I guess you don’t need basic comprehension to be a journalist (technically, I’m a journalist). Would have been nice for Newt to remind the guy that Obama is “against” gay marriage too… or at least too much of a pandering coward to pretend otherwise.

* North Korea is saying they got condolences from Jimmy Carter for the passing of Kim Jong Il, and Jimmy Carter has not said otherwise. I know it’s unprecedented, but can we deport an ex-president? He doesn’t even seem to like this country, so he might actually want that. Maybe Norway will take him; they did give him a peace prize.

* Complex molecules have been found on Pluto. This would be a really interesting discovery… if it were found on a planet. But since it was found on Pluto — that nothing rock floating somewhere — who cares?

* Tonight in the MAACO Bowl, 7th ranked Boise State (11-1) plays nothing ranked Arizona State (6-6) who fired their coach. Yay the BCS system and the awesome bowl match ups it produces! Boise State is moving their football program to the Big East (Idaho is East of some things) which is currently an automatic qualifier in the BCS, but that will probably be stripped soon. Well, half the fun of rooting for BSU is seeing them try but never get the respect they deserve. Underdogs!

Yes, Google Docs, you’re right that “Doesn” isn’t a word, but it’s usually acceptable when followed by ‘t.

Things are supposed to improve as we move into the future, but things seem bleaker now. We even have less planets than when I was a kid.

Remember when we used to be able to get people into space? I even heard that in the long long ago, we got a man on the moon.

For a boring person, I lead a pretty interesting life.

Don’t get the big deal of Whoopi Goldberg saying that Communism is a “great concept”. Didn’t Homer Simpson say the same thing in one episode?

Oh. Whoopi Goldberg is an actual person. Then why is she named “Whoopi”? Is that a Jewish name?

We should make a separate U.N. with only the U.S. as a member. It will be much more powerful.

Jeneane Garofalo and Bill Maher should hook up. Together they’d make an angry, unfunny couple.

So are there non-specific holiday songs yet, or is that impossible to do except as a parody?

Don’t vote for Newt!

Newt Gingrich is making some news because he told someone at a campaign event to vote for Obama. Really.

Okay, here’s what happened. At a Gingrich rally in Oskaloosa, Iowa, a gay Democrat Obama supporter got into a “cordial” one-on-one with Gingrich, that ended with Gingrich telling the questioner to support Obama:

Gingrich: “I think those for whom the only issue that really matters is the definition of marriage, I won’t get their support. I accept that as reality. On the other hand, for those to whom it’s not the central issue in their life, if they care about job creation, if they care about national security, if they care about a better future for the country at large, then I think I’ll get their support.”

Q: So what if it is the biggest issue?

Gingrich: Then I won’t get their support.

Q: How do we engage if you’re elected. Then what, what does that mean?

Gingrich: Well then you engage in every topic except that.

Q: Except it’s most important (some crosstalk).

Gingrich: Well, if that’s most important to you then you should be for Obama.

Q: I am, thank you

Now, personally, I’m fine with what Newt said. I’m not talking about my agreeing or disagreeing with his stance on gay marriage. I’m talking about his standing his ground and telling the gay Democrat Obama supporter the same thing he tells his own lesbian sister. That’s unusual for a politician to tell someone “go vote for the other guy.”

But, apparently, that’s not what a candidate is supposed to do. A candidate is supposed to pander to all the little piss-ants and ass-clowns that crash a campaign event and come up to him. The candidate is supposed to say whatever it takes to make them happy — even if the clown is going to vote for the other candidate anyway.

Newt Gingrich isn’t doing that. And I like that about him. But, of course, standing firm and not backing down for what you believe is a bad thing, to hear the media, Democrats (but I repeat myself), and most other Republicans and their supporters talk. Except Ron Paul supporters. They like that their candidate has been consistent for years. They don’t like it when Newt Gingrich is consistent. It shows how much he’s part of the establishment … though all of the Washington establishment has come out against Gingrich.

Wait. We’re looking for someone who the Washington establishment doesn’t like? Yet someone who knows how Washington politics works? And someone who can balance a budget? And someone who, when he makes a mistake, can admit it? Even big mistakes?

I better stop now. I’m finding that I’m liking Gingrich more and more. And I don’t think I’m supposed to.

Nuke the News: Part of Our Charity Is Letting Obama Keep His Job

* So there’s a big congressional fight over this measly payroll tax cut. I like tax cuts, but considering the straights we’re in, this a big useless thing to be spending a lot of time on. If you needed further proof that Obama is an unserious person, it’s that he’s trying to draw the line on this — a two month extension of piddling. It probably does help with some job creation by reducing cost per employee, but come on: After all these years, this is the best Obama has right now? I feel like we’re scrounging around for table scraps. And why doesn’t Obama want to pass the House bill that would extend it for the whole year? Because it would force him to build the Keystone pipeline and ::gasp:: create more jobs.

Obama is absolutely useless. Why aren’t the Republicans constantly chanting that fact?

* Obama says he is the fourth most accomplished president. The presidents ahead of him by his estimation? Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, and President Logan from 24.

* Obama has had a bounce in the polls recently which people think comes from the economic news of unemployment falling. Of course, that’s happened because people have given up hope of finding jobs and have stopped looking for work thus removing themselves from the unemployment statistic. So Obama used to like hope, but despair works better for him these days.

* Who is the most charitable nation? The U.S.! And it’s not just on account of us being richest as lots of other rich nations didn’t make the list. Of course, there’s lots of people who want to end charity by taking the money we could be giving and having the government distribute it. In really socialist nations, people don’t know charity because helping others is supposed to be the government’s job so we don’t have to worry about it. No wonder then two of the least charitable nations — China and Russia — are Communist and former Communist.

* About a third of the world identifies as Christian. The Romans had experience with a lot of religious movements, but they found most of them blew over when the leader was killed. Christianity… not so much.

* Here’s the trailer for the new Rainbow Six game. You may notice something topical about the politics of the terrorists:

It almost seems like they’re supposed to be Occupy Wall Street, but then again they’re middle-aged and not a bunch of college kids, they’re wearing suits, seem to have a knack for organization, and are racially diverse.

Still, I’m holding out hopes for a level where you shotgun hippies.

Random Thoughts

So is the Dark Knight going to be all about how it’s wrong for a billionaire to run around in a costume punching poor people? Last thing I want is another left-wing, morality trip.

Filled out a survey and it took me a second to remember to answer “Yes” to “Are you a parent?” It was a survey on playing Legend of Zelda.

There’s this Club Nintendo thing where I can answer surveys on games and get coins towards free 3DS game downloads. I’m an adult.

Early complaints I’m hearing about the Dark Knight movie is that Bane speech sounds garbled and is hard to understand. Based on Rick Perry?

In some countries, a “Man Bites Dog” story is a restaurant review.

To whom did we compare people we had disagreements with before Hitler?

I know this lyric criticism is a little late, Weird Al, but I’ve never heard of kids starving in Japan. Don’t know what else you could rhyme with “bran”, though.

So for Star Wars the Old Republic, I pay $60 for the game and another $15 a month to be able to play it? That doesn’t sound insane to some people? I’m one of the most avid gamers there are, yet I can’t imagine how more than handful of people pay these monthly fee to play one game. If it were a buck a month, maybe. And will this paradigm last when competing against iOS games where $6 is expensive? Maybe it’s just I’ve never tried an MMORPG other than Diablo one and two (free to play online).

It hard to associate the bad guys in that Rainbow Six trailer with OWS because they’re wearing suits and are racially diverse.

Tell me that in the training level you get to pepper spray unarmed hippies.

Why doesn’t someone just make a game called “Hippie Puncher”?

I’m not sure I’m liking this new “controversial video game” fad. Next we’ll be launching angry birds at illegal immigrants.

I don’t understand the mentality that adding walnuts to cookies or brownies does anything other than ruin them.

Is your Obama tree properly decorated?

Students of history agree: the upcoming celebration doesn’t accurately reflect the birthday of the person being celebrated. This holiday has traditions that go back far beyond the birth of the One who is worshiped by many. But, over the years, the two celebrations became intertwined. There is no actual physical proof of the circumstances of birth of the child, but there are documents and writings from around the time. Though their authenticity is questioned by some, we have enough evidence from other sources to establish an approximate date and location of the birth of the one worshiped by His followers.

So, despite Barack Obama being born August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, the trees are trimmed with decorations celebrating Him during this holiday season.

What?

Christmas tree? What Christmas tree?

Oh, that thing in front of the U.S. Capitol? Yeah, some people still call it by that archaic name, but we can’t have anything related to this “Christ” person, because of the Separation of Church and State that’s in the Constitution, so…

What?

Oh, it’s in there. Somewhere. Let me look.

Okay, it’s not in the first seven articles. Maybe it’s in one of the amendments. Ah, here it is.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion…

See? Oh, wait. It goes on.

…or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

Well, that’s not it. But everybody knows it’s in there, even if nobody can find it. And, as a result, we can’t have a tree that celebrates this Jesus person.

But, the Constitution doesn’t say we can’t celebrate Obama. In fact, it says we have to. I think that’s in the Commerce Clause or something. Or maybe it’s in the Right to Privacy section. But it’s got to be in there.

So, in celebration of Barack Hussein Obama, we urge you to take that tree you have in your house and get rid of anything that has a Jesus implication. Like Angels. Except Albert Pujols. You can keep him.

And watch that Santa stuff. We don’t want children getting the idea that Santa brings them things, when everyone knows Obama is responsible for the stuff you have. He lets you keep some things, and we are beholden to him for that. So don’t confuse the kiddies with that silly Santa nonsense.

We know that some traditions die hard. So, if you want to have something from that Bible book on it, maybe something from Psalms. Number 19 would be good:

The decrees of the LORD are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold

See, that could apply to Obama, so it would be okay. But, you got to be careful. You don’t want people reading something into it and get the idea that there could be worship going on. Unless it’s worshiping Obama, which is good. And right. And required.

What if you don’t have a tree? Because you’re a Jew or a Muslim or a Jehovah’s Witness or an atheist or a Pastafarian or something else? Simple. Go get one. Gaia won’t mind you cutting down a tree for something as important as Obama. And put up your Obama tree. Like the U.S. Capitol did.

And, be sure to have ornaments that actually mention Obama. But not Jesus.

We don’t want to forget the reason for the season.

PRODUCTION NOTES:
#1: When creating lolterizt! pictures, please caption with either black or white text, as colors like red and yellow tend to blur badly when I compress the images.

#2: Standard image size for these posts is 350px wide by whatever high. If you can have your images 350px wide before you caption them, I won’t end up shrinking your captions into illegibility when I re-size the images.

MAKE YOUR OWN: The free lolbuilder from I Can Has Cheezburger.

STYLE NOTE: Short captions are usually better. Your goal is 10 words or less, with humor value tending to increase exponentially as the number of words approaches 1.

Send your submissions to lolterizt@gmail.com and – if they aren’t obscene (IMAO is a PG-13 site) and don’t suck too terribly bad – I’ll post them for you. Remember to include your name (and blog URL, if applicable) so I know who to thank.

Nuke the News: They’re All Bad, Racists for Not Arming Drug Cartels, and BRAIN EATING AMOEBAS!!!!

* A poll shows that most Americans don’t think candidates from either party will do a good job as president. I think this is a step in the right direction. Usually in politics, we say one guy is great and the other guy is bad and the they’ll say their guy is great and our guy is bad. But can’t we compromise and agree they’re all awful? Treating all politicians with contempt is the first steps towards a smaller government, because when you hate and distrust them all, you realize how imperative it is to give them as little power as possible.

* Q. What do you call someone who thinks it’s a bad idea to sell guns to Mexican drug cartels? A. A racist.

I think it’s safe to say that racism has replaced patriotism as the most popular last refuge of a scoundrel. But really, what does Holder have left? This Fast & Furious thing is so awful to the point of being cartoonish. Unless he wants to do the right thing and resign in disgrace, what’s he got left other than to throw any charge he can think of out there? Certainly not dignity.

* New one from Biden: “Look, the Taliban per se is not our enemy.” They’re just sort of tyrannical, backwards, violent people we’ve been fighting for the last decade, but no one should take that as meaning we don’t like them and don’t want to be friends.

* Apparently a couple people have used these things called “neti pots” and died from brain eating amoebas. To which my reaction is: THAT’S A THING?!!

Yes, apparently there are brain eating amoebas (well, they’re not technically “amoebas”) that just sit around in bodies of water waiting to get in through your nose and eat your brain. And if that happens, there’s a 98% mortality rate. It just rarely happens (it needs to be heated water), but apparently a neti pot can help if you use tap water because lots of tap water has BRAIN EATING AMOEBAS!

Somewhere near you right now is a body of water with little amoebas resting in it saying, “Brains! Brains!” WHY DID I NOT KNOW THIS?!

* Here’s a new one for my argument that atheism isn’t so much anti-religion as just itself an ill-defined and flighty religion. It’s from the New York Times arguing you can be good without God — and sure, you can do good things but the question is always “why” and once again I’m frustrated with how illogical the arguments are for that. She lists a number of moral judgments she says are “obviously true” but never expounds on why they’re obviously true — other than they feel really wrong. She doesn’t even attempt to make a logical argument. A lot of people feel homosexuality is wrong… so is that obviously immoral too or what sort of consensus do we need?

And what if you’re a sociopath and have no natural feelings of right or wrong — are you then not bound by morality? (this is something I explore in one of the novels I’m working on) To give it a more concrete case, let’s say you’re a sociopath who runs a country — like North Korea — and get a lot of benefit from the “obviously bad” things the author lists such as torture and slavery. Can you make a logical argument to this person not to be awful to people to his own benefit? Society sure didn’t stop Kim Jong Il, so I guess he had nothing to worry about.

The author of the piece objects to nihilist atheists because… I guess that just feels wrong again. But the nihilist seem to me more honest and more like they actually tried to logically think through their philosophy. To me, it seems clear the author believe in some sort of divinity to the drive to do good — that’s it’s not just some mindless directive from evolution — but for some reason she wants to leave her god ill-defined and unexamined and just uses lots of verbiage to dance around that fact.

* Apparently Harry Reid has been stealing ideas from Sunny:

Harry Reid, what a one man conviction of how awful our concept of government is in that we have people like him making decisions that actually affect other people.

* Wisdom of the Day: “It’s ‘New Year’s EVE,’ not ‘New Year’s STEVE.'” –Bill Corbett

* New Dark Knight trailer!

Looks like it gets political. Apparently Catwoman is a member of the Occupy movement. Ace has some commentary on what he considers the heavy-handed messaging in Nolan’s Batman films, to which I respond that Ace is a dumb stoopid and these movies are awesome. And if you’ve seen the Dark Knight, you have to agree I have the more reasoned argument.

The enemy

Who is our enemy? Well, it’s not the Taliban. That’s the word from Joseph R. Biden — or is it Yosef ar Biden?

Air Force Two’s Prime Cargo declared in an interview with Newsweek that the Taliban isn’t our enemy:

There is not a single statement that the president has ever made in any of our policy assertions that the Taliban is our enemy because it threatens U.S. interests.

Naturally, the White House issued a clarification. Oh, it seems they stood by Biden’s statements.

So, the Taliban isn’t our enemy. Then, who is?

Looking at the actions of the Obama administration, here are the likely candidates:

  • The Queen of England
  • White people that are conservative
  • Black people that are conservative
  • Brown people that are conservative
  • Navy SEALS
  • Republicans that support Ron Paul
  • Republicans that don’t support Ron Paul
  • Libertarians
  • Liberaltarians reassessed as not a threat
  • Fox News
  • A little bit of ABC News
  • You, simply for reading this

Be on guard. Report any of these people you see. It’s your duty.

Random Thoughts

Finished the intro to my new book on how to solve America’s problems. It ended up being a little more insane than I thought it would be.

Part of what’s so hard about writing a book is how long I have to wait to share it with everyone.

I often forget my daughter’s first name. But that’s because we never use it. When she has the middlename “Buttercup”, who cares about the first name?

So, we were all aware that there is a brain eating amoeba that lives in tap water and is just waiting to get in through our noses?

Oh. It’s not technically an “amoeba”. I guess that’s okay then.

Nuke the News: Well, We Knew He Was Il…

* Kim Jong Il is dead… or so reports the North Korean media in the one time we’re inclined to believe them.

The atrocities committed in North Korea on daily basis are a little too much for a humor blog to mention, and as Jonah Goldberg pointed out, I wonder what history will think of us for just standing around and letting it happen. All us non-barbaric people of the world could get together and do something… but it would be hard and people would die and there would be protests. You have two things you can focus on in life: To try and do good or to try and avoid evil. Right now, we’re kinda set in the latter. Trying to do good just causes problems, so better not try at all.

So some other insane sociopath is likely to take over North Korea, but these cults of personality always fade with each generation so who knows if he’ll keep it. And a military conflict is always a nice distraction for someone trying to hold power, so we have to watch for that.

Still, I’d like to think an evil dictator dying is a good thing. You can use all sorts of atrocities to bitterly cling to power for your short, measly life, but it all ends one day and it ends forever.

* Ron Paul is ahead in Iowa. The advantage of him winning that state is it would be as clear a statement as any of how irrelevant Iowa is and that we need to stop paying the Iowa caucus so much attention. Where do we even get these early primary states?

So, if it were between Obama and Ron Paul, who would you vote for? I’m leaning Obama there; he’s a known entity and can at least be bullied into doing what’s right. Ron Paul would just stand back while nukes are launched at us and say, “We had this coming for abandoning the gold standard!”

Anyway, expect the gloves to come off if Ron Paul wins Iowa. I don’t know what they’ll dredge up, though; other than the anti-Semitism, racist newsletters published under his name, trutherism, and “blame America first” foreign policy, the guy is pretty clean. Plus, he has some good ideas on the Fed.

* The House GOP aren’t cottoning to the payroll tax cut extension the Senate approved. The GOP won’t be satisfied until they get all their demands… plus more demands they haven’t even thought of yet. Expect Obama to look all resolute and then capitulate. The thing to remember about Obama is that he’s much more scared of you than you are of him. Much much more scared.

* There’s apparently a movement to ban exotic animals from circuses. So what would that leave? Acts with cats and squirrels? Or just nothing but clowns? ::shudder::

Of course, I haven’t been to a circus since I was five or even thought of going to one since then. They seem more of something one would go to for entertainment in the 1920s. Kids these days have things like Call of Duty video games to entertain them. If there are any exotic animals, they’ll be emptying an M-16 mag into it.

* “Osama Bin Laden, Moammar Qaddaffi, Kim Jong Il… 2012 is looking like a major rebuilding year for evil.” –Jim Geraghty

* BTW, if you’re looking for more Christmas gifts, you can send a gift Kindle book to people. It’s sent to their email, and then they can put it under any Kindle account they want (or just read it in the cloud reader if they don’t have a Kindle or a smart phone or an iPad or one of the many other things you can read Kindle books on). And I know a great book to gift…

How to make the debates more fun!

There are seven Republican candidates left:

  • Michele Bachmann
  • Newt Gingrich
  • Jon Huntsman
  • Ron Paul
  • Rick Perry
  • Mitt Romney
  • Rick Santorum

Oh, wait. There are actually 15 left. We forgot about these:

  • Gary Johnson
  • Fred Karger
  • Andy Martin
  • Jimmy McMillan
  • Tom Miller
  • Buddy Roemer
  • Matt Snyder
  • Vern Wuensche

Why aren’t they getting in the debates? Because they have no shot?

Isn’t that what was said about Herman Cain, who was the frontrunner for a while?

Isn’t that what was said about Newt Gingrich, current frontrunner, when most of his campaign staff deserted him this past summer?

Isn’t that what Ron Paul supporters say about every other candidate?

Isn’t that what every other candidate’s supporters say about Ron Paul?

This is where Donald Trump screwed up. When most of the big names declined to show, he canceled. He should have invited the lesser-known candidates to show up. Who knows? We might be seeing Jimmy McMillan or Vern Muensche leading in Iowa.

We need to have a debate where all the candidates show up. That would be interesting. Imagine hearing this exchange:

Chris Wallace: Mr. McMillan, how would you handle the threat of a nuclear Iran?

Jimmy McMillan: The rent is too damn high! I say it again, the rent is too damn high!

Gary Johnson: Let me add, Chris, that the war on drugs has caused the rent to rise.

Buddy Roemer: The high rent favors the 1%.

Chris Wallace: Can I just go back to asking questions of Newt and Mitt? Please?

That would be fun. But perhaps I’m being unfair to Chris Wallace.

Plus, we could actually have Obama there in a dunking booth. Whenever there’s a question about Obama, the participant can either answer the question, or get a ball to throw at the plunger, trying to dunk Obama in a tank. With sharks. With frikkin’ laser beams.

We would be glad to sponsor such a debate, as long as someone else will pay for it, but still put our name on it. Here’s what we need: a venue, a moderator, and a panel.

So, what ideas have you to make the debates more fun?

Random Thoughts

If you’re an atheist, you never get a moment of “Aha! I was right!” about eternal nothingness. It will always require a measure of faith.

One of the best things about writing my book is that I’ve now gone from being terrified of radio interviews to enjoying them. I have to thank Michael Medved for that for showing me how to do them in a fun way.

I’m still assessing this “being a responsible adult” thing.

Brad Bird seems to be keeping his above 90% record on RottenTomatoes with his first live action film. I was so not caring about a new Mission Impossible film, but then I saw who was directing it. Somehow I doubt it will be as poignant as his other films, though.

It’s nice that the Marine Corps runs the Toys for Tots program so they can finally give something back to this country.

Ooh. My latest column for the NYPost earned a coveted “Read the whole thing.” from the puppy blender. Not his usual “I quoted the only interesting part so don’t bother clicking the link.”

I love it when I click to watch a movie trailer and they make me watch an ad first. Have to see an ad to watch an ad.

Apparently for Expendables 2 they heard your complaints about which over the hill action stars were missing and added them too. Chuck Norris better do a roundhouse kick or I’ll demand my money back.

Interesting economy they have in Legend of Zelda where one of the hardest to obtain and most valuable items is an empty bottle.

I stopped being excited for Christmas when my letter to Santa got the response, “One day, I’ll murder you while you sleep.”

I’d wake up Christmas night to see Santa standing over me. “Not this year, but maybe next,” he’d say. “Or when you least expect; like Easter.”

I stopped believing in Santa when it was revealed he had an affair.

Santa got a lot more popular with the kids when he stopped wearing clown makeup.

Last time I saw Santa, he was reading Richard Dawkins. Don’t know what to make of that.

Santa is kind of paranoid. He has lots of look-alikes go do events for him, sort of like Saddam.

I once saw Santa windup and punch an elf right in the face. Not saying I disapprove; just saying I saw it.

Santa used to root through people’s pantries for cookies and make a big mess, so eventually people figured it was just easier to leave some out for him. And if you’re leaving out cookies, you might as well leave out milk. It’s only polite.

On years when Santa is low on cash, he just sneaks in at night at relabels the gifts from your parents as from him. Parents go along with it because they feel sorry for the guy.

The reason Santa wears a red suit is the same reason the Redcoats did.

If you ever encounter Santa’s reindeer, don’t mention Rudolph. They will maul you. They hate that madeup reindeer getting all the credit.

The long and short of it is that Santa likes kids – and not in a creepy way – and you need to give a wide berth or you’re going to get hurt.

Not surprised the North Korean dictator died. I knew he was Il.

You can use atrocities to cling to your dictatorship for mere moments, but you’re still dead forever.

Nuke the News: Final Debate of 2011

* I have a new New York Post column and in it I argue we shouldn’t worry about a potential cellphone ban and just feel lucky we’re allowed to drive at all. I make a pretty good argument cars would not be approved for general use if they weren’t invented until today and are basically a grandfathered freedom of a different time.

“So you’re proposing that people speed around in tons of metal? You must mean only really smart, well-trained people?”

“No. Everyone. Even stupid people.”

“Won’t millions be killed?”

“Oh, no. Not that many. Just a little more than 40,000 a year.”

“And injuries?”

“Oh . . . millions.”

* Also, I’ll be on Talk of the Town with Larry Rifkin at about 12:30pm ET talking about Obama: The Greatest President in the History of Everything.

* So, another Republican debate last night — the last of the year. Newt Gingrich got beat up a lot (while having some good answers like his condemnation of Obama on delaying the Keystone pipeline) and the FOX News commentators did put Ron Paul’s full crazy and “blame America first” foreign policy ideas on full display for Iowa. The main thing, though, was that Romney did well. Really well. Like he had so many good sounding answers — including great attacks on Obama — that I wanted to forget how much I don’t like him. With Gingrich fading, we might want to think of embracing the inevitable and learning to be like Romney. He’s not so bad. He’s like shape-shifting robot, but if he’s on our side, that’s kinda cool.

So, I think we can like Romney if we try hard and just not think about a few things. And we also will need to be prepared for lots of talk about “magic underwear” in the general election.

* By the way, Mitt Romney has picked up the endorsement of Nikki Haley. There’s some talk of her being a VP nominee, and she would be a twofer — a woman and a minority. Of course, she’s not a popular minority like black or Hispanic — she a minority minority from a group that doesn’t have a large voting block.

Oh, don’t tell me you’re above affirmative action in picking candidates. We’re not pushing out the best man for the job in favor of a minority or a woman as there is no best man for the job — they’re all politicians.

* We’ve declared an official end to the conflict in Iraq. So I guess we’ve won… maybe. I don’t remember conflicts in the past being so ambiguous on the outcome. Well, maybe in a hundred years we’ll know for sure.

* Christopher Hitchens has died. He was a great and quite cantankerous writer. He was also a famous atheist and will now find have found out whether he was wrong or… nothing.

* Wisdom of the Day: “Finally told my parents they’re gay!” –Megan Amram

* This morning I started work on my next book for HarperCollins. Thanks to the sales of Obama: The Greatest President in the History of Everything, I was asked to write another book. This one will be on my solutions for all the problems facing America. Hopefully it will start a movement when it comes out with me as leader.

Hmm… I’ll need a leader hat…

Random Thoughts

Romney is everyone’s second choice, but he won’t get bumped up until people have exhausted all other first choices.

My cleverness level today is “oh so”.

I know what will cheer the country up: I’m going to perfect cold fusion.

I forget: Which of the GOP candidates like the Constitution?

Someone have a gotcha question for Huntsman? “Why doesn’t anyone like you?”

These are really smart questions. I can tell because I fall asleep during them.

All the candidates are wearing suits again. Someone should be different and wear a poncho.

I’d rather Congress not work at all, but Perry’s idea is a good compromise.

Romney was so good at the debate I almost forget he’s Romney.

It’s long past time to admit that the Supreme Court was a poorly thought out part of the Constitution.

Interesting debate, but I’d still rather be playing Zelda.

Ron Paul: “Here’s an idea to close up the deficit: Let’s sell Iran some of our spare nukes.”

I’m not scared about any candidate on gun issues. We’ve even convinced Democrats not to touch that hot stove.

Des Moines is a real place?

Can’t wait for the extra special Christmas Day debate!

We need more political commentary on who we think Santa would vote for.

If Ron Paul doesn’t use his influence to start a suicide cult, he’s a fool.
