“I want to invest in basic research so the jobs and industry of the future take root here.” — President Obama
“And my basic research tells me that the industry of the future is a slightly faster version of the train technology that was cutting edge 150 years ago.”

So these areas are still open to research, but climatology is the one science that’s settled? Don’t go into that field.
How about investing in ADVANCED research, since the jobs and industry of the future take root THERE?
Bill Gates can do more with 1 million of his dollars than Obama will ever effectively do with 10 Billion of OUR dollars.
Oh, Connecticut, that’s not even wrong. Obama did great things routing about $10B to his cronies for various “energy startups.” Never mind they mostly went t!ts-up. Just think of the estates and fancy cars and yachts that money bought!
@4 Jimmy”:
And in the meantime, Bill Gates is finding ways to provide drinking water to the third world by new technology…while we are still paying for Solyndra.
You’re right, Connecticut. He’s also spending a lot of money fighting malaria around the world.

I want to invest in basic research so the jobs and industry of the future take root here and then be transplanted to China.
And frankly the new high speed rail is slower than trains were all those years ago…
