I’m in need of a new set of tires for my car, and I’m dreading this.
Every time I buy a new set of tires, I feel like I walk into the place with the word “sucker” stamped on my forehead, and walk out of the place with an empty wallet and a bad case of buyer’s remorse (coincidentally, sorta like how I’ve felt after every election since 2004)
So… anyone with advice on how to go about buying 4 tires without getting rooked, please chime in.

Nope — I always get rooked, too.
If it helps, our company with a pretty good-sized fleet always orders from:
http://www.discounttiredirect.com
Which has a link entitled “Free Shipping.”
walmart.com Recently bought highly rated, brand name tires from walmart.com and had them shipped (for free) directly to my local superstore with a tire center. Hundred’s cheaper than anything comparable

Discount Tires will negotiate. At least the two stores near me will. I think my best deal was about $40. off each tire.
I used to hem and haw like I couldn’t afford it (because I couldn’t). Now I just say “I’m sorry I just can’t afford that, is there a better deal?” then they find one.
Find a small tire place that will mount and balance tires for a lesser fee and have tirerack.com ship directly to them.
They have good prices on any tire you could want.
Your vehicle ain’t noways tired? Ditch the Hillarymobile.
Full disclosure; I work for a Ford Motor Company Dealer. That being said, Ford does have a “Low Price Guarantee” on their tires (The dealership personnel may, or may not know how to handle that, however). You do need to have another tire price in writing. They always have decent rebates, on top of the guarantee. Ford Credit Card has 6 months no interest. I just bought 4 tires for my wife’s Chrysler 300S (no, does not have to be a Ford product), and even without my employee discount, they were well within local and mail order prices.
We get some of the best people on this forum.
Tire salesmen are “the best people”? Either Oppo needs to get out more or your species has a lot of improving to do.
What? Scott Olson can’t even swing a deal for his own cousin Harvey?
I only get one “Employee Discount” per quarter. I’m going to need the next one for my own car. Funny how the wife gets hers first….
BTW; I’m a mechanic, not a tire salesman….
Getting new tires is racist. Because #RockTheVote.
You be pimpin’ with “Shaun King Whitewalls” – white on the outside, black (sort of) on the inside.
Midnight auto sales, at a parking lot near you.
If you go to a chain store, look online at the brands available and make your choice based on your mileage. When I was driving 80 miles a day for work I needed tires that could take the punishment. Now I work from home and could go cheap. It’s worth paying more if you put on a lot of miles.
Never had a problem with Discount Tire. The service is top notch and the prices are competitive. Get a set of “Michelin Premier A/S”. Buy the best and cry once.
No Advice.. if your dumb enough to overpay for tires, when there are tire sellers on every block, you deserve to put someone else’s kids through college….
I usually go for the round black ones, haven’t had a problem yet.
…, said Sir Mix-A-Lot.
Switch to a motorcycle. Half the tires.
Twice the cost, and half the tread life… It costs the same in the end…
Plus extra chances of road rash.
I got a half a set (one pair, check) of used ones that look like new on the back. Until I can get the front-end fixed, there’s no point in getting new ones.
as someone else said: tire rack.com
They have reviews, too. I’ve bought 2 sets of 4 from them, saved money over everyone else, but I was close to one of their warehouses and picked them up myself, and saved the shipping. Then took them to midas for mounting, etc. Midas has a relationship with tire rack, you can order them and ship them directly to midas, who will mount and balance them for $16/tire.
