Tuesday Night Open Thread

I like some old songs. But, have you every only known — or even heard — only part of a famous old song? For instance, I suspect most of you have probably heard the chorus of this song, but not the whole thing.

  1. Modest (pronounced mo-DEST) Mussorgsky, who composed the opera Boris Godunov, which was almost certainly Jay Ward’s inspiration for naming Rocky and Bullwinkle’s enemy Boris Badenov, was born March 21,1839, in Karevo, Russia. In addition to being a composer, he was also a hopeless drunk. I’d post a picture of the painting done shortly before he died eight days after his forty-second birthday, but I can’t figure out how. Have a look on the web; you’ll have no problem identifying the picture that I have in mind.
