Memorial Day Poem

Oppo drawing“Cry havoc!” quoth the Bard,
“Let slip the dogs of war!”
No dogs, though, cheered that deadly word
That had been slipped before.

The world will selfishly little note
What Abraham Lincoln said
What we say here. His famous quote
Went unheard by the dead.

Each crusade on earth, it seems,
Sends heroes unto hell
Is it worth their hopes and dreams?
Live poets never tell.
