I read/heard that Dr. Who was originally supposed to be a show about science. Like Mr. Wizard but turned into sci-fi.
I suppose I could look it up somewhere instead of just giving an offhand comment but I’m not that industrious.
It was supposed to be educational. That’s why they included stories relating to Marco Polo, the Aztecs, and the Reign of Terror, the Romans, the Crusades, the Norman invasion (The Time Meddler), the Siege of Troy (The Myth Makers), the Massacre of St Bartholomew’s Eve, the OK Corral (The Gunfighters), and more. Even Jamie (2nd Doctor’s companion) came from the Battle of Culloden (The Highlanders).
All that gave way to space monsters, and beginning in 2005, teen girl crushes. I really liked some of the historical aspects of the show.
