According to my old X-Men comic books, the effectiveness of the cross against vampires doesn’t depend on the background of the vampire, but on the faith of the one holding the religious symbol!
Shadowcat, (Jewish) was able to ward off a vampire using a star of David.
Nightcrawler, (Roman Catholic) had similar success with a crucifix, but Wolverine, (agnostic) got slapped across the room when he tried to use his Adamantine claws to form a cross.
