An EU commissioner said mechanisms were needed to identify and limit the circulation of “fake news” which is “spreading today at a disturbing rate.”
First fake news to quash: that such a mechanism exists outside a dictatorship.

I don’t know how Europe works legally on this but one way to combat “Fake” news is to loosen up libel laws to make “News” providers more responsible for their stories and for reporting unsubstantiated rumor as fact. I wouldn’t tell them what to print, but what they print better be true or else they will be open to a lawsuit. See? It is all fun and games until you have to involve lawyers.
You know this is a real story because you read it on the internet. Everyone knows that.
As Joe Jackson might say “They wouldn’t upload it if it wasn’t true.”
