I’ll do quotes from the movie later (after everyone has had a chance to see it), but here are great quotes from the series Firefly. It includes some narration I hadn’t heard before because it was used when shown on FOX but not on the DVDs.
This list is missing one of my favorite quotes which is from the pilot. Can anyone guess what it is?
And what are your favorite episodes? When introducing the series to someone new, I usually skip ahead to “Shindig” which is one of my favorite. “War Stories” might be the best, in my opinion (except for the lesbian love scene, which, if SarahK asks, I hate).
UPDATE: Hint for the favorite quote – it’s near the beginning of the pilot and is said on the ship Serenity (I really should just add it to IMDB; am I the only one who loved that quote?).

Out of Gas has got to be my favorite. I also really care for Garbage.
I saw a screening last night and will have a spoiler free review up sometime today.
/shameless plug.
I figured it was going to be this one
If someone tries to kill you, you just try and kill ’em right back! but that one’s there.
Now I’m stumped.
Taleena,
Maybe I’ll collect blog reviews – group them into Firefly fans and people who hadn’t seen the series.
Veeshir,
That quote isn’t from the pilot (I’m talking about the two hour pilot, not the first episode FOX showed).
Reading comprehension is my friend.
Out of Gas is my favorite so far (I’m still watching them in preparation for Friday–halfway through Trash now). The cutting in and out was fabulous; you’re working on three time levels (old history, explosion and aftermath, Mal fixing ship) without losing narrative flow or experiencing temporal confusion.
The deliberately cold way in which Mal gets his crew moving instead of letting them give into despair (while clearly sympathetic)–well, let me just say that Mal had been governor of Louisiana, we might not be in the mess we’re in.
In an era where all the male heroes have either been feminized, made into buffoons, or turned into testerone parodies, Malcolm Reynolds is a man, and this episode is Exhibit A.
“Shindig” and “Trash” go back and forth as my favorite episode, though “War Stories”, “Ariel”, and “Objects In Space” are pretty well up there, too.
I’m not getting any residuals either. Harumph.!
As for favorite quote, I’m wondering if it’s near the end where Wash says in a very calm voice something like, “If everyone could just be quiet for a few minutes”–the equivalent of “do you want to do this? then do you want to shut up and let me do this?”
(Now I must watch that episode again to get the exact quote down. Oh darn.)
I like Shindig, Our Mrs. Reynolds (when Book says, “Now isnt that… special?” is awesome), Ariel, and War Stories
Well, since I can’t choose just one favorite…
Serenity
The Train Job
Bushwhacked
Shindig
Safe
Out of Gas
Ariel
War Stories
Trash
The Message
Heart of Gold
Objects in Space
The others were most fantabulous, but these just stood out.
“I think you have a problem with your brain being missing.”
That line is great in and out of context. Use it on your friends!
Hmm… Frank J.’s favorite quote…
How about:
“Let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job, and then I get paid.” … No that’s more of a RightWingDuck or Harvey favorite quote (and it’s on the list besides).
I know! “I got a rule. I never let go of money I don’t have to. Which is maybe why I’m running this little world and you’re still on that dinky old boat, sniffing for scraps.”
“Jayne. Your mouth is talking. You might want to look to that.” Cracks me up every time. And also I love it when Jayne does the math. Also: “Dear diary: today I was a pompous ass and my sister was crazy. We got captured by hill folk and were never seen from again. It was the best day ever!” A little paraphrased. I love Jayne’s sarcasm.
Scariest quote?
ZoÃŽ: They’ll rape us to death, eat our flesh and sew our skin to their clothes. And if we’re very, very lucky, they’ll do it in that order.
It’s a Whedon work. You can’t get ten feet without a good quote.
How about:
“I aim to misbehave.”
Favorite quote that’s missing? How about this one? Wash says something like “Could wreck the ship, kill us all.” To which Mal replies, “Well, if that happens, let me know.” That’s a paraphrase, but it’s close.
Is that it? Do I win the prize? 🙂
“Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!”
That has to be it. I’ve watched the pilot twice today (only episode I’ve ever seen).
That line had me lauging anyway…
“sudden but inevitable betrayal”? Close, but I’m sure it’s got to be, “Mine is an evil laugh.” Ain’t that just Frank J.?
I don’t know about Frakn’s favorite quote, but one of the best has to be when Shepard is trying to coax River out of the cubby hole she ran to in fright upon seeing Shepard’s shock of insane hair. “Come on out, River. I’ll put a hat on” he says. “No” syas River. “It’ll still be there. Waiting.”
I had to pause the show until I stopped laughing at that!
