As with any religion, environmentalism’s Messiah is beyond reproach. Look at the Kwazy Kos Kids response (do I even have to give a profanity warning) to discovering that Al Gore uses as much energy in his mansion (occupied by two people) in one day as the entire continent of Africa uses in a year. First, they worry only on how this information was made public, then they deny it truthfulness, then they completely miss the point and wonder what Drudge’s or the group that did the report’s energy bill is, and then they assert that Gore has done more for global warming than any other person so he’s allowed to waste energy all he wants because he earned it. And, really, isn’t sacrificing modern conveniences for the sake of the environment only for little people and not one as magnificent as Al Gore?
Plus, Gore purchases “carbon offsets”… the plenary indulgence of the environmentalism religion. Yes, Gore does urge others to change their lifestyles while living extravagantly himself, but he has the money to purchase “carbon offsets,” so the liberals don’t see any hypocrisy in that.
Maybe–and I’m just going out on a limb here–those who lack basic logic skills should stay away from issues of science.
I just realized something: Aren’t I basically calling Gore a chickenhawk? I’m pretty much arguing against Gore’s belief in global warming by pointing out that he doesn’t believe in it enough to change his own lifestyle. It is faulty reasoning–one’s argument can easily be correct or incorrect regardless of his or her own actions–but the left-wing loves faulty reasoning so perhaps it our duty to point out that Al Gore is an environmental chickenhawk. We should ignore anything he has to say about global warming until he signs up to fight in Iraq… or something.

You are correct in your assessment of Mr. Gore. The basic tenets of modern liberalism demand that “we” make sacrifices for the greater good. The hidden part is that “they” are the greater good. They hide their money where it can’t be taxed, all the while they beat their chests about how we should be willing to pay more to “helpthepoor”.
Modern “science” is divorced from logic. The same “scientists” who decry Intelligent Design as religion, which can’t be tested or falsified deny the basic truth that molecules to man evolution is also religion, which can’t be tested or falsified. You can’t find the truth when you reject certain possibilities a priori.
You’re right, it’s the chickenhawk argument. Al’s lifestyle does NOT invalidate the concept of global warming.
It’s the facts which do that.
However, if Al Gore ever said that individuals should alter their personal lifestyles to lessen the impact of the global warming which he claims both exists and is anthropogenic, then you can at least validly claim that he’s a hypocrite.
Not to mention the fact that you can’t defeat entropy. Therefore, Al’s carbon credits were purchased with money. How much carbon was created during the accumulation of that cash? Its very printing creates pollution.
Well, regardless, we’re not all cut out to be in the military. On the other hand, anybody can reduce his own energy consumption. An Uzbek friend of my roommate’s came in one day and saw that we had six lights on in the middle of the afternoon, and had the air contioner on and the window open (though it was actually on fan, so take that!). Thing is that utilities are included in our rent so we don’t tend to think of such things, but we are wasting somebody’s money, and I have the privelege of having a really cool landlord, so we were all kind of embarrassed that day.
Al Gore can cut down on his energy by moving into a refurbished supermarket or something.
After reading the first couple comments, their reactions seem to be like crazy religious fundamentalists after hearing someone deny the existence of God.
I really don’t care that Al Gore has a high utility bill. I don’t care that he makes more money than I ever will. I don’t care that he pollutes more than I ever will. What bugs me is the hypocrisy.

I would love it very much if people would pay me to plant trees. I’d plant them in my yard, and if they paid me enough I’d even send them pictures of the trees as they grow. Therefore I am in favor of people buying carbon offsets.
Carbon Offsets are like Leprechauns, if you believe in them, then I have some genuine “guaranteed dry” land in Florida for you at a great bargain. Cash and small bills only, please.

I don’t see the comparison to “chickenhawk”. Unless “chickenhawk” means, “Somebody, who isn’t fighting, who says you should go fight.”
The only way that’s comparable is if you were an advocate for the draft, and then celebrated how you paid your brother to join the Marines so you wouldn’t have to.

The chickenhawk argument is predicated on the belief that only those people who have firsthand knowledge of war should be entitled to make decisions about it. The argument doesn’t necessarily decry hypocrisy so much as it claims that you’re incapable of making a valid decision because you never served yourself.
We live in a country where people are permitted to choose whether or not to serve. We also live in a country where the government was specifically designed to put civilians in power.
Simply because someone hasn’t served doesn’t make him (or her) a hypocrite for advocating military action. Those who use the chickenhawk argument claim that’s the case, but they have never proven the hypocrisy.
The essence of hypocrisy is this: I claim that some rule applies universally, then I declare myself exempt from the rule.
When I advocate military action, simply because I am not serving does not make me a hypocrite. If I advocate a draft then exempt myself, that is hypocrisy.
Al Gore, on the other hand, is a hypocrite because he declares that everyone universally must change their ways, then he exempts himself on the grounds that he is “doing too much for the globe” to be held to those rules.
That would be like the Pope reaffirming the Church’s stance on homosexuality, gay marriage and the celibate priesthood, the announcing that he was taking a man as his “spouse.”
The “chickenhawk” argument has never proven the hypocrisy of its claim. There may or may not be validity to the claim that only those who serve should make military decisions, but no one claims that certain people and only those people should be forced to serve in those actions.
No one is in Iraq who didn’t, at some point, voluntarily offer his or her time to the military. That they are now serving in Iraq, even though they may not have wanted to, doesn’t make the people who sent them hypocrites.

Actually, I’d say this comment to Hot Air’s post on the same subject says it all –
“I went out and beat up some minorities this morning. But I bought some racism offsets, so it’s OK.”
So, where do I purchase these near miraculous offsets? Somebody selling drug dealing offsets too? Or maybe some work offsets so I can stay home? Oh I forgot…that’s called welfare.
I’m starting to think it’s a good thing the libtards in hollyweird chose to give algore the prize for most politically correct and minority popular diatribe.
