A fascinating watch:
Stewart’s standard dodge now seems to be that anytime a left-wing outlet is biased, it’s just being sensationalist and trying to get viewers and isn’t concerned about the politics, but FOX News is only biased for invidious reasons.
The problem is, I don’t think the left is even capable of being balanced no matter how earnestly someone like Stewart might even try. It’s like blind man trying to paint a portrait; no matter how hard he tries, he just doesn’t understand what he’s trying to do and can’t tell how well he did it when it’s done. People like Stewart are stuck in this far left prism, and he can’t even tell how distant he is from the political center. Everything to the right of him is just scary and confusing and he’s not sure how to deal with it.
Anyway, I think the reason the Daily Show gets so much focus is the failure of the traditional, left-wing MSM. With all the alternatives, no one is listening to them anymore. The last, great left hope to get the left-wing view out there is a comedy show, which isn’t actually as influential as the left like to believe.
As I’ve stated before, I find it fascinating that the folks that the left presents as their most brilliant minds are never people who have actually invented things or built successful companies, they’re always comedians. I hate to burst the bubble for those that somehow aren’t aware of this, but most comedians aren’t very bright.
Stewart was weasel wording through this entire interview. Like all libs he is a consummate liar and uses his status as a ‘comedian’ to slander and belittle all he disagrees with which is anyone to the right of Marx and I ain’t talking about Groucho.
Couric, Williams, and Sawyer would have given basically the same answers (except for the “I’m a comedian” dodge)–And been equally as honest as Stewart.
Actually if Couric had said “I’m a comedian” she wouldn’t have been lying.
I have to admit that I watch Stewart because he really is funny! But he is liberal and I understand that. But he is very funny! I laugh at every episode…
Who?
I think the show is funny – I get the pointed jabs and such. may not agree, but I get the funny in it.
But when asked about “bits” of his show and he plays this innocent, “I’m just a comedian” it was all in fun, excuse – oh, COME ON!
Dont make the joke if you are going to back up the joke – what a little weasel
Stewart? Isn’t he a former F1 driver or a sleazey singer?
You nailed it, Frank. MSM’s sensationalism and laziness is accidentally partisan vs. Fox News (and conservatism in general) is conspiratorially and hatefully partisan. Stewart sees himself in the same light. He doesn’t want to effect “partisan change” — he wants to effect good, positive change with humor that just so happens to be partisan.
In response to the Cain clip, Wallace should’ve asked if THAT was a political statement. Did Stewart think Cain was being serious by literally limiting bills to 3 pages? What was Cain’s political point? What was Stewart’s? Stewart needs to be challenged hard politically on his main points, not on oblique race issues — that is liberal territory. Take apart the man’s jokes and confront him with his naked message.
I like Jon Stewart; he’s a funny guy and I think he’s honest, just myopic.
Jon Stewart is a degenerate liar. There really is nothing else to know about the guy. I’ll never understand why people who know the truth call his lies funny. If the premise of a joke is an outright lie, it has no chance of being considered funny by anyone who isn’t ignorant of the truth. It just doesn’t work.
I can’t stand Stewart. But then, I couldn’t stand Seinfeld, either.
I love the bit about “every poll” shows that fox viewers are less informed. All the polls i have seen that came to this conclusion defined being informed as accepting everything coming out of the white house as gospel. If you know the other side of the story or have doubts then you are less informed.
I agree with both ccoffer and Jimmy. When I watched Stewart’s show, I was unable to muster much of a laugh. It’s not that the show is funny to liberal people, it’s that the show is funny to ignorant people or someone who is blessed (or cursed) with the ability to laugh at lies and stretches of the truth.
Whether or not it’s mere coincidence that liberals and ignorant people meet perfectly I leave to you.
Because, ccoffer, stupid people would rather laugh at a lie than recognize they’re living one. 52.7% stupid.
I watched this Sunday. Chris Wallace mentioned a few names from the media and claimed that they were liberals pushing a liberal agenda. Stewart tried to say, no, they were just being stupid and lazy. I thought about it and realized that, if you mistake stupid and lazy as being liberal, what does that say about liberals?
Hollywood very much does have a liberal agenda, so much so, they’re willing to lose billions upon billions of dollars pushing it: G-rated films vs R.
You see, Stewart is a comedian.
That’s why he doesn’t bring on serious guests and talk about serious issues. Oh, wait, he does play that game.
As someone noted, “Clown nose on, clown nose off” when it suits him. I watched the interview and, as much as I enjoy his writers’ comedy, could not contain serveral, “Oh, that is such horse $&@!.” I’m sure he’s convinced of his reality, but it doesn’t square well with the rest of the world. That’s why he’s constantly being pinned as pseudo-serious commentor by the left and the right. But for him, we’ve all got it wrong.
“If enough people tell you you’re drunk, maybe you should lie down.” – Jimmy Stewart
An honest comedian makes fun of everybody. Stewart does this occasionally, but not often enough to rate as anywhere near honest.
“I’m sure he’s convinced of his reality, but it doesn’t square well with the rest of the world. “
I, on the other hand, am convinced he is a gutless, duplicitous turd who uses his “format” to achieve his propaganda aims free from accountability.
In other words, his entire shtick is a rhetorical vehicle…and it works on those who have know idea what rhetoric is, but still have an intuitive understanding of it’s laws and logical conclusions. When you understand what Stewart and his toady underling Kieth Colbaire do for a living, it becomes clear what kind of people they are.
Compare those two brainless turds with the duo of Matt Stone and Trey Parker. The latter are not conservatives in any sense of the word. They are, however, honest. They might be wrong quite a lot, but they aren’t duplicitous scumbags who spend their lives trying to get people to believe things that aren’t true.
When he said that not everything should be viewed through a partisan lense, I wish Matthews had asked him why his producer told Crowder that he couldn’t come on because they don’t have conservative pundits. I don’t watch his show anymore. Screw him.
I think it’s pretty telling how “funny” he is off his show…without his writers. In fact, he comes across as pretty average intellectually, as well.
When you said, “Chris Wallace tries to nail down John Stewert.” I was hoping you meant literally.
