Jake Tapper has a review of Aaron Sorkin’s new show, The Newsroom, and it sounds pretty exciting. People just know something is wrong with the news, but Sorkin apparently gets to the heart of that problem: not enough criticism of the right. And the main character sounds great: a self-proclaimed Republican who does nothing but talk about how “extreme” the Republicans are. I’m subscribing to HBO right now. And hopefully this groundbreaking show will help the left in the future, because it points out the one reason their views aren’t more popular: the media just doesn’t carry their water enough.
I had hoped 2010 would have been a learning experience for the left, but they obviously need many more beatings before the message gets through.
So who wants to hold a The Newsroom viewing party?
HBO – isn’t that a cable-only network? (I don’t have cable any more.)
I’d be up for a viewing party (ooo la la) at someone else’s house as long as they supply good ale and compliment me on my potato salad.
I’d be up for a viewing party if:
1. Pizza and buffalo wings were provided.
2. Bottles of Guiness and/or Samuel Adams cold enough to hurt my teeth were provided.
3. I get to sit in the leather recliner.
4. We watch “Battle for LA” instead…hell…I’d settle for “Groundhog Day” again.
As a rule, HBO = anti-American suck.
Geez, is Tapper getting paid by the word count?
Still, an easy way to judge news stories is to use my four question “Is This News?” pop quiz:
1) Is this story new?
2) Is there anything I personally can do to make the situation better?
3) Does this affect me personally?
4) Is this entertaining?
Simple, and shows why I generally avoid news on TV, and will avoid “The Newsroom” as well.
Gotta say, every time I hear Jake Tapper’s name, it’s because he’s been overheard saying something sane. I really think he’s the closest thing left in America to an actual journalist. I’m surprised ABC hasn’t fired him yet.
Or at least wrapped him in duct tape and hurled him into a supply closet “for the greater good”.
Kinda sorry about ripping on Jake Tapper, I hear him on the radio from time to time and he’s the best one not on Fox. Still, brevity is the soul of wit, otherwise long boring and stupid things like Obamacare would make sense to everybody as a bad idea.
As long as Jake’s not kissing Obama’s butt like his co-workers at ABC, he has my permission to prattle on for hours 🙂
How about network shows?
SCANDAL = See, Republicans are just like us except for those tea partiers.
HARRY’s LAW = See, Republicans are just like us except they like guns.
