It certainly makes them happy.
Not to Russia though…God forbid if I’m accused of collusion!
As Steve Martin once said “I love money. I love everything about it. I bought some pretty good stuff. Got me a $300 pair of socks. Got a fur sink. An electric dog polisher. A gasoline powered turtleneck sweater. And, of course, I bought some dumb stuff, too.”
W. Somerset Maugham would have agreed, I think. In his novel Of Human Bondage (no, it’s not about kinky sex), he wrote, “Money is like a sixth sense without which you cannot make a complete use of the other five.”
I have found over the years of a long and mostly mis-spent life that I can trust people who say that money is important far more than I can trust people who say that it isn’t.
Money, like everything else in life, is relative. The less you have the tougher things can get but having a lot doesn’t necessarily solve all your problems. Everyone has to find the sweet spot for themselves where their talents can get them enough money to get them the things they need and most of what the want, thus providing enough freedom to pursue their happiness with some decent hope of attaining it. And remembering there are no sure things in life except Death and Taxes.
