  1. Editing ain’t what it used to be:

    “However, {in} the lands that Rome incorporated into their empire, the people that long recited {resided} in those areas were able to sustain their native languages. The Roman elite themselves were bilingual, especially {those} {who were well-}versed in Greek. Any Roman citizen who knew Greek was {due} a great honor of sorts { “of sorts” = a strange mitigation}.

    Roman Citizens {lowercase “c”} were not crucified unless you {they} committed treason: Any {lowercase “a”} other crime other {two “other”s?} than treason committed by a Roman Citizen {lowercase “c”} was either {punished by} exile from the empire or had {the requirement; or was required} to pay compensation. If you were not a Roman Citizen {lowercase “c”} you’re {you would be} likely will {to} be forced into a “Jesus Christ Pose” and crucified just like h{H}im.

    Christians were prosecuted but were not meal{s} for the lions:

    {etc….}

    Attendee: Brought peace?

    Reg: Oh, peace – shut up!

    Reg: There is not one of us who would not gladly suffer death to rid this country of the Romans once and for all.

    Dissenter: Uh, well, one.

    Reg: Oh, yeah, yeah, there’s one. But otherwise, we’re solid.

  3. Rome was a brutal police state. Still certain rules of Roman Justice were adopted in our constitution. The one we should have kept was if you falsely accused someone of a crime, you could get the sentence your victim was facing.
