It doesn’t actually make them happy. They consider misery a zero-sum game. So if they can make you are a little more miserable they figure they must be slightly less miserable. They aren’t, of course. Happy people will always find reasons to be happy. Miserable people will always find reasons to be miserable.
In the comments of Sarah Hoyt’s blog, the point was made that edgy humor isn’t allowed by the Left, but not because it has elements of pain and cruelty in it. That’s okay. It’s the humor that’s unacceptable.
