So a bunch of Democrat representatives lived off food stamps for a week. I don’t know what I’m supposed to get out of this; that it’s really hard living off of just ABSOLUTELY FREE FOOD. Oh, I’m so sorry these people think that their ABSOLUTELY FREE FOOD isn’t quite adequate. Just $31.50 a week? Do you know there are countries where a family of five would love to earn that a month? But you didn’t earn it. You got it… FOR FREE.
That’s the thing about this country: You can have no job and no income here and still not have any real problems. We’re reduced to critiquing how it’s somewhat difficult to live on ABSOLUTELY FREE FOOD. Well, I object to this stunt; I don’t want any of my tax money going towards keeping politicians from starving.

For that week, did the representatives get free cell phone service too? And (as in some states) free motor vehicle insurance? Free child care? Free meals for their children? Free healthcare and free health insurance (which are not the same thing)? They might as well complain about those, too.
What I don’t understand – how the heck can one person eat $32 worth of Ramen noodles in one week? That’s a stack of noodle bricks 27 feet high.

i watched someone in the checkout line just yesterday. three boxes of cookies, one of banana bread and a box of popsicles. not a noodle in site. put it on the old EBT card ’cause that’s less embarrassing than food stamps. (that is one of the actual reasons for the change)
@4 – I remember back when using food stamps was humiliating. My family was on them for a while when I was a kid (long sad story), and I remember how I blushed to have to hand over those stupid not-money coupons when I went to the store to pick up a loaf of bread or something.
Even worse were the cheap plastic coins they gave you as change.
You can bet that, as a grown-up, I’ve moved heaven and earth to live my life frugally enough that I will never need to be on them.
Lesson learned. God bless the stigma of The Dole.

Food stamps, Welfare, Medicaid, government housing, subsidies for daycare, abortions and contraceptives… why am I paying for any of this? This is not a “safety net.” It’s a government addiction program for the idiot masses who do nothing but breed more idiots.

I distinctly remember some rough times as a kid…a big sack of taters fed us for a week sometimes. For some strange reason, dad always worked extra jobs on evenings and weekends instead of holding out his hands for a freebie. Thanks Pop

somewhere along the way it seems that the “safety net” was redefined to be “middle class lifestyle without the work”.
we’ve watched it happen and the politicians have done it despite protests from those of us paying the bills.
You know, these reps could always just donate their salaries to food the hungry..
There is another side to this story. Please don’t forget that many, many Seniors who have worked and paid taxes for most of their lives are now finding themselves in need of this assistance. I receive $132 a month and it is greatly appreciated.

Although for all of me, I’d gladly let them keep everything I’ve already paid in if they’d just let me opt out and invest that money they’re no longer taking as I see fit at my own risk.
The ‘safety net’ only applies to illegals and the illegals getting the free stuff are lots of times muzzies with several wives and large families and no one checks up on them. Remember the Boston Bomber Brothers? And wonder who paid the younger’s hospital/doctor bills? We do! No expense was spared to save his life and the Saudi in the hospital visited by Mooch? @4 jw Went to Sam’s Saturday, I have a Premium Sam’s Club membership and the couple in front of me (presumable also a premium member at 7:30am) had bags of frozen Talapia, Salmon, Crab legs, Shrimp, etc. They paid cash for the metal disposable pans and then whipped out the food stamps for all the food items. Food Stamps = $$$$$ Someone’s making the big bucks and it ain’t me…
I live off of $20-30 a week of food. I’m absolutely fine… It’s the college tuition that’s going to kill me.
During my college years, I found that having a job at a pizza place helped a LOT with food bills.
Burned pies and mis-makes rarely saw the inside of a trash can.
*$32 per fake identity, what, did these people only steal one? What does that prove? People fresh of the raft from Mexico know how to do it, what’s their excuse?
Or, you can save/sell your food stamps for something other than food.
ERLANGER — The annual Erlanger-Elsmere Summer Feeding Program has begun at Arnett Elementary, Lindeman Elementary and Lloyd Memorial High School. The program promises a free lunch to all children, and adults are welcome to participate for a small fee of $1 for breakfast and $2 for lunch.
Bring a friend this Friday, June 14, to any location and receive free ice cream. During the program, families will have their choice of two or three entrees, a selection of fruits and vegetables, and multiple beverages.
The Kenton County Library will provide various types of entertainment such as jugglers, a petting zoo and reading programs throughout the summer. No meals will be offered July 4.
The program is available to children ages 1-18. Children are not required to be students of the district. There are no income requirements. For more information, call Erlanger-Elsmere School Food Services at 859-342-4690.
