The Democrats, in power but still as impotent as ever, are working on non-binding resolutions to oppose President Bush’s new strategy in Iraq. Since they’re non-binding, they don’t actually do anything, but a number of conservatives argue that these resolutions will hurt troop morale by sending the message that the mission is in vain.
It’s a stupid argument, though.
Am I supposed to believe that our troops in Iraq, who are in the middle of very serious work, are going to take even a moments notice of what the jackasses in Congress are up to? I don’t buy it.
So, I’m all for non-binding resolutions. In fact, if Congress did nothing but pass non-binding resolutions, the world would be a better place.

How about a Non Binding Public Hissy-Fit then instead of the Binding one?
Not quite as satisfying but still…
I’m all for it if it means that a few Dem politicians who go to Iraq to pretend to support the troops fall victim to a little friendly fire and don’t make it back.
In fact, if Congress did nothing but pass non-binding resolutions, the world would be a better place.
I’d extend that to all legislative bodies, in fact: the California state assembly would be a good place to start.
Anyone that votes for the resolution and does nothing to actually prevent the surge does not have the couragre of their convictions. As much as I despise Ted Kennedy, at least he will vote his conscience. I would never vote for a gutless cur that fails to act as a representitive of thier district. This nonbinding, ass covering, politically motivated, save my next election, “I am not resolute”, resolution angers me more than actually trying to prevent the surge or bringing the war to a politically expedient end.
Fire them all.
Good thing it’s non-binding, since we’re already fighting this war, as Tom Berenger so aptly put it in “Platoon”, “with one hand tied around our balls…”
Once again they have resolved to have no resolve. Let me know when this turns to half assed resolve to talk about maybe doing something? Or was that a half ass resolve to probably do nothing? Or was that an absolute resolve to run away and cry like a terrified little girl? Being a Democrat always was sort of confusing like that. Unfortunately, Uncle George’s plans haven’t gone so well. Call me an optimist. I’m waiting for the Democrats to really drive the nails in the coffin.
And they ask me why I started hanging around conservatives. My answer: Brain damage, yours or mine.
Cheers to non-binding resolutions in congress. Let’s get some more of them passed. Then, we could grasp our dreams and be just like the UN!
As a retired Marine this whole thing really pi$$es me OFF! The job those brave warriors are doing is hard enough without these jackasses telling the enemy “Hey, hold on a little longer Ali Baba, we’ll be outta your face in a few months.”
I’ve already decided that I’m not donating to any RNC committee or organization as long as they support (or don’t punish) any RINO that puts their name to this abomination (or voices similar thoughts just to get some press time) and let them know in writting each time I get a “Please give” flyer from them.
(deep breath, deep breath…OK)
Let them waste our time with non-binding resolutions-after they pass a real and comprehensive Border Control Policy.
So what exactly is the difference between their normal “work” and non-binding stuff?
Based on the “fence”, and on enforcement of immigration laws, and on enforcement of most of their laws … it strikes me they consider everything they do “non-binding”.
I’mm with Frank … the more time they spend doing crap like this, the better off the country is … since even kindergartners would do a better job of writing “bills” and debating.
We need to go back to the days before Amendment 17, when Senators were appointed to represent their state. We might still get a Hillary Clinton … but I doubt it.
yes their non-binding resolution does nothing but let our troops know they don’t support them. and i’m with FormerHostage on letting the RNC know that we will not accept Chuck Hagel as a Republican any longer. the traitorous bastard.
I know RTO’s just in Afghanistan , but he noticed it and he’s been fairly annoyed by the news most of this deployment. it’s depressing. but sure, better with Congress wasting time than cramming tons of stupid stuff through.
