I’ll Take One When They Have an iPhone Version

FOX News had a story today trying to scare people about the existence of a gun disguised as a cell phone. There have been no reports of these in America (nonetheless killed by them), yet they were trying to play up a four-shot .22 like its a national security threat.

First off, why conceal in a cell phone four dinky .22s more likely to wound than kill (and you might as well use a knife at the range its effective) when you can just as easily conceal an actual gun under your coat? I guess the threat is that maybe this gun can make it past security and onto an airplane, but do you think a terrorist can really control a plane full of angry passengers by pointing at cellphone at them?
This is a novelty, not a threat. I can’t see anyone other than harmless gun nuts wanting one (BTW, I’ll take one).n At least it demonstrates the folly of trying to ban guns by showing how easy it is to make one. Basically, if you have something to hold a bullet and something to strike a bullet, you have a gun.

  1. Someone ought to pass a law requiring that all guns be required to look “gunny”.
Someone ought to also pass a law that requires everyone who owns a gun to wear their underpants on their head so they can be easily identified by law-enforcement and alike and shunned for being the crazy gun-toting anti-social(ist) wackos they are.
I really need to go punch a hippie now.

  2. What this does is make the “geniuses” at Court House security say: “Please make your phone light up” so they can verify that it “Works”.
Of course this is the same brain-trust of rent-a-cops that let a Glock into the courthouse disguised in a 2 liter Pepsi bottle, . . .

  3. An old friend of mine who was a cop for 20 years in northern Arizona told me about one of the strangest gunshot deaths he ever saw, and was allowed to sit in on the Autopsy.
The victim was shot in the shoulder with a .22 pistol. The bullet ricocheted off his shoulder blade and went crossing down through his body cavity to the pelvis, where it ricocheted again this time to the other side of the pelvis, ricocheted a 3rd time and ended up near his other shoulder. Every major organ in the body cavity had a hole in it: heart, both lungs, stomach, large and small intestines, liver.
A .22 can be dangerous, but so can a pencil or pen.
The best way to combat someone with a cell phone gun, let honest, law abiding citizens carry their .45. Problem solved.
And just because. “A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the (gun)phone.”

  4. #5 Hey, isn’t that the same magic bullet that killed Kennedy as well?
Besides who the hell in the U.S. carries a cell phone that looks like a fcuking BRICK! What is this, 1993??? Besides, the reception on those things SUCKS…and the battery life – don’t even get me started. No custom ring tones, no web browser, not even TEXT MESSAGING. What does this phone do? Kill you by boring you to death?

  5. I’ll bet that dude’s ring tone is that really annoying……La,La,La,La,La,La,La….Infidel, pick up the phone, it could be Allah calling. God i hate that stupid ring tone, the only thing worse than that would be Ron Paul’s voice squeaking about the constitution.

  6. “Basically, if you have something to hold a bullet and something to strike a bullet, you have a gun.”
My uncle used to take a short piece of 3/4″ galvanized pipe, a 3/4″ nipple (with a hole drilled in it), a spring-loaded makeshift firing pin and a float-like triggering system, and a frame to hold it all together, would make a ‘gopher gun’. It fired a 12 gauge shotgun shell straight down on those filthy little vermin as they tried to burrow up out of the ground. Not only was it fun to watch go off, but their guts made great crawdad bait. Ah, the good ole days.

  7. THAT’S a really old video. Anyway, I’ve seen photos and descriptions of zip-guns made out of nut drivers, cigarette lighters, pens, hollowed-out bolts, even a car pager. Basically, anything that can hold a .22 cartridge, spring and pin can be made into a zip-gun. We even had somebody up here arrested for converting a plastic revolver CAP GUN into a zip-gun. He put a short bit of pipe in the barrel, a nail in the hammer and reamed the holes in cylinder to take the brass. It was hell to reload, but it fired when they tested it and despite what you might think didn’t blow up.
    I wouldn’t worry this crap- it’s yesterday’s news.

  8. When i was a kid we made marble guns with a piece of pipe and a drilled endcap, taped on a block of wood for a “stock”. We put a firecracker with the fuse thru the endcap and put a marble in the pipe, lite and aim. AHHH good times.

What are you talking about? My cell-phone works great! As long as I avoid campus computer labs (except the eastern side of the one in the CLB) and avoid the bubbles of dead space on rural roads and in the student union and around University Library, and 75% of the time I don’t even have to stand in weird angles to get a working signal, assuming there isn’t extensive wireless communication going around, and I get like 60% of my calls, as long as I’m wearing thin pants…

  10. I guess hitting the “send” button has a whole new context in this case.
I wouldn’t recommend carrying a real phone or a real gun while carrying the .22 phone; either you’ll mistakenly try to shoot an attacker with your MotoRazr, or you’ll accidentally answer your 9mm when you hear your phone ring, and that’s really going to ruin your day more than the occasional dropped call…

  11. I second punching a hippy.
Remember Tater Guns? PVC pipe, hair spray, and a tater launching across the sky.
Maybe when Hill or Borrack get elected, they will ban pvc because of the implications of being a public nuisance. NEAT.
ahhh, dang, need to find another hippy to punch.

  12. I recall when NYC had the world’s toughest gun laws (Sullivan) and every other kid in the Bronx was carrying his own “ZipGun” -a few minutes work with a pipe a .22 cal bullet, a rubberband, a nail to hit the primer, and a piece of wood from an orange crate for a handle.
One nut in high school used to fire the .22s in a vise in shop class by hitting the primer with a prick punch and a hammer.
Let’s face it the most dangerous guns are always in the hands of some government.
PS Robert Kennedy was killed with a .22 cal and there is documentaion of a tough old lady in Alaska that took down seven brown bears with a .22.
Box cutters I hear, are also dangerous, but a mite harder to regulate.
