I guess I should wait 24 hours before I really lay into Ted Kennedy (well, more so Massachusetts for reelecting him), so let’s try to have good memories about him right now. Best I can do is an old In My World that featured him: Ride of the Warmongerers. And try and think of something nice to say about Ted for the comments (no joke). Think of it as a challenge.
chirp…chirp
The best thing that can be said abuot Ted Kennedy is that he fought by any means necessary for his causes and convictions.
Imagine if we had just one conservative who would be as ruthless to achive good and proper conservative ends…We would live in the land of milk and honey…and dinosaurs with rocket launchers…and nary a hippie to be seen.
It would be an interesting alternate history to ponder – what if Kennedy had won the Democratic nomination in 1976? Chappaquiddick or not, giving Carter the nomination instead of Kennedy may have been one of the Democratic party’s biggest mistakes.
Good things about Ted Kennedy….
Here’s a little story for you. I turned 18 in 1980. I voted in my first presidential election that same year. Being in South Texas in 1980 meant that in order to have any say in politics at the state level, you had to be registered as a democrat. Many state offices had no republican candidates and so the democratic primary became the de facto general election for those posts. For that reason, I registered as a democrat. I knew that I would be supporting Ronald Reagan in the general election and so I actually voted for Ted Kennedy in the primary.
The good thing about Ted Kennedy was that if he had won the democratic nomination in 1980, I knew Reagan was a lock to win in the general election!
One time at band camp, I had to pull this car out of the water. The girl was dead, but the driver had walked home. Ahhh good times.
he did take on his brothers thirteen kids as if they were his own….
Also if it were not for his philandering he may have had a better chance at stopping the Clarence Thomas nomination…. Thank you Teddy for allowing us to get a justice that actually believes in going back to what the constitution means.
He was such a firm supporter of AGW that he really reduced his carbon footprint by ceasing to breathe. If only the rest of those AGW supporters would follow his example.
As wrong as I believe he was he did stick to his convictions…that’s a lot more than you can say for most people.
Without the #1 worldwide drain on the Scotch whiskey reserves, we can solve the energy crisis by developing cars that run on single malt. Until then, it’s HAPPY HOUR, 24/7, beeyotch!
something nice about ted?
well, he’s dead. thats as good as it gets.
Can we save the world and build windmills off Hyannis Port now?
Looks like the Mary Jo Kopechne Memorial Tumor has finally done it’s job.
Mitch Rapp
To paraphrase an old joke, he didn’t sweat much for a fat guy.
Right at the moment, I’m having a very hard time living up to my belief that I should not celebrate the deaths of others.
The best thing about Teddy is that he didn’t kill me.
Oh, and that he’s dead.
Umm, he liked drinking. That’s a good thing, right? I mean, I like drinking.
Constancy in error, calumny, and dishonesty is no virtue
He was the last of the “power” Kennedys and he kept it going pretty much right until he died. I don’t like his politics at all, but I do respect that. He could have quit earlier and taken it easy.
Whew, what a challenge. Two things to add:
1. Mary Jo Kopeckne was a week shy of her 29th birthday when she died; she’ll be forever young, pretty, and pitied. TK was 77, and they say a coward dies a thousand deaths. This was only his latest and a rather final one. He will be forever old and bloated and a coward. It’s rather funky and weird, but there is justice in this universe.
2. Looking ahead to your laying into Massachusetts, go to it! but they’re probably in shock right now, or running around like ants after their anthill is knocked over. I grew up there in the late 50s and early 60s. The Kennedys were just a fact of life, like earth, wind, air, and fire. It is over, as of yesterday. Maybe the long, slow liberation of the People’s Republic of the Bay State can now begin.
3. Did I mention I can’t count? Anyway, I wonder what Mr. Obama and Teddy talked over….
One only hopes that Mary Jo got one kick to the nads at the pearly gates…
I wonder what he thought at the pearly gates when he was met by all the aborted babies he supported in being there. May God have mercy on his soul – he will need it.
Something positive?
OK, Mr. Kennedy was a very strong swimmer!
How’s that?
willliam kennedy smith picked up his date and said “I have good news and bad news.” The good news is I’m going to rape you tonight. The bad news is my uncle is going to drive you home.
Probably the biggest contribution ted made to society; a great joke.
Hey FrankJ, IMAO seems to be broken. The front page is all messed up, and when I click on “Exit the Mobile Edition (view the standard browser version)” it just redirects to the messed up front page.
Well I guess I’m in trouble cause I got nothing nice to say.
He made it harder for Far-Lefties to rail on Catholics. I know they feverishly wait for Pelosi and Biden to throw in the towel so they can declare all-out war on us.
Don’t forget your sunscreen.
Opportunity knocks for Mass to redeem it’s reputation. Will they take it?
I’m told he was always the best senator to work for.
Obama visited with Kennedy moments before his death. In his last seconds, Kennedy pulled Obama close, whispered the word “BOSCO” and then slipped away. White house officials and Obama are working to unravel what Kennedy was trying to say.
He was the kind of guy who wouldn’t be so formal as to wear pants to a rape.
He never killed anyone I know.
That I know of.
Ted’s father, Joe Kennedy, instilled in his son’s from a young age that all of them, somehow, will serve their country. Even though we may disagree with his political view, I personally believe he did so in line with his convictions. Ted Served in the Army in the early 50’s, and then entered into political service, in my estimation, not originally for personal power, but to serve his country in another avenue.
Outside of his support for the civil rights movement back in the 60’s, I can’t think of a single issue I agreed with him on. Chappaquiddick and his stance on Abortion are now between him and God. It is no longer for me to decide. But I can say this (Which has already been said), He stood for what he believed in. He was able to make friends and work with Republicans and Democrats. It says something about his ability as a leader to influence Republicans to come to his conclusions (I’m thinking McCain-Kennedy, But McCain isn’t much of a Republican anyway.) The man was a smooth political operator; Far above his relatives, and almost anyone in the history of this great country. He was also one of the greatest orators in the Senate.
His death closes a major political chapter of our nation, which started when his father, Joe Kennedy, served under FDR (That is a argument for another time.) Our nation has not seen a political force like we saw in the Kennedy family. I pray that his family will get through this difficult time.
Veeshir says: He never killed anyone I know.
Except Mr. Constitution, Mr. Freedom, and Mr. America.
other than that.
Of the hundreds of votes and the democommie made, and the bills the democommie introduced, NOT one of them benefitted this nation, and NOT one of them made life better for the united States citizen.
Good riddance.
I have heard that Ronald Reagan actually liked him.
@ ussjimmycarter: I wonder if you can kick someone so hard in front of the pearly gates that you tear a tendon in your foot?
MR
I’m just curious, what do the Pearly Gates have to do with Ted?
I don’t think he’ll be seeing them.
He stopped the Democrats’ “fillibuster-proof” Senate.
Nice job on that one Ted.
Also, I understand he was a regular churchgoer. Hard to condemn a man who supports his religion, even when he appears to disagree with everything they stand for.
celebrity testmonials:
bruce willis: “ted’s dead, baby. ted’s dead”
stan marsh: “oh my god, they killed kennedy. you bastards!”
angus dewer III: “och noo! ted was oor best customer!”
chris matthews: “I’ve lost that tingle right up my…liver”
mr. death from twilight zone: “heaven? who said you were in heaven, mr. kennedy? (maniacal laugh, fade to black)
r.i.p. ted. may you burn like a tire dump in your new eternal abode.
Leave it to CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, PBS…and yes, FoxNews to lament the death of one of the most anti-American, corrupt career politicians in the history of the country.
The only good thing about Ted is that he’s dead. Now he can’t kill anyone else, rape anyone else, or continue in his destructive quest for power.
He was a better swimmer than most of his dinner dates.
He was elected to the Senate 9 consecutive times. Whatever it was he did to convince people to vote for him, he was VERY good at it.
He proved Dean Wormer wrong, Fat, Drunk, and Stupid is a way through life.
I’m sure in Purgatory (I don’t believe in Hell) he is getting the sort of universal healthcare that he worked for the common folk of this country to get.
Hmm, good things about Uncle Ted Kennedy:
Could certainly hold his liquor, and drink anyone under the table.
Job security (been in Congress longer than most of us have been alive).
Bigger government dynasty than the Bushes.
Plant food.
He rarely spilled even a drop of liquor.
Ted Kennedy a was loyal, hardcharging dedicated worker. He mserved his soviet masters well.
Well, here’s something good……..Several years ago, he’s the one who pushed the legislation that keeps the governor from immediately appointing a replacement to fill a vacated Senate seat in his state.
All chickens come home to roost.
One more good thing he did: in 2004 he got MA democrats to change state law so that the governor can no longer appoint a senate replacement. Just in case Kerry got to the Whitehouse, he didn’t want Romney appointing a Republican.
Now, MA has to wait 5-6 months for a special election to fill his seat instead of the dem governor appointing another flaming liberal right now. Good work on that one, Teddy.
He campaigned as a liberal, then voted as a liberal. Notice the unusual political honesty.
He provided his picture for the dictionary when they were defining Limousine Liberal.
He passed on his prowess with women to his nephews
West Palm Beach parties with Uncle Teddy, good times,…good times.
Some good things about TK….well….in all of his years in politics he was only directly involved in the death of one person. Also he was a well known patron of the liquor industry. He kept ugly wind mills out of beautiful Hyannis Port.
Although I disagreed completely with his stance on gun control, I could understand his bias. The man had lost three brothers to gunfire.
Something nice: He showed us how contemptible Massachussetts politicians are.
He’s gonna feed a lot of worms for a Looooooong time.
If he’s cremated, will that be a tad redundant?
And if he’s cremated, the oven will explode. under the Alcohol load.
hey that rhymed
A nice thing about teddy.. he was slightly less retarded tah chuck shumer, john kerry, and corky.
He was worthy of having a particular bridge re-named in his ‘honor’.
And if he’s cremated, the oven will explode. under the Alcohol load.
Catholics don’t do cremation, AFAIK. On the bright side, he did pre-embalm himself. Quite a step-saver.
He was an excellent swimmer (even raised swimming dogs) with a healthy dose of self-interest.
Well, I guess I can find something nice to say…he sure could hold his liquor, even if it meant that he never came to a conclusion while sober. I’ve done that, too…although I never killed anyone in the process…or tried to dictate national policy.
His passing will be really felt in the financial world – where the price of vodka will go down across the board due to a huge drop in demand in Massachusetts.
He really had a profound effect on swimming instructors in the late 60’s. Almost no parent would let their daughter become an intern without learning basic survival skills in water emergencies.
Because of his family’s nuances, we all know about New England clam CHOWDAH!
I’m sure the movie ‘Weekend At Teddy’s’ will be a hoot.
It is true that the man held to his convictions. I’ve also heard he was very charitable. Even if you disagree with the politics of the Kennedy’s (which I think all of us here do) you can’t argue the fact that they take public service seriously. I’ve read that is it is an expectation of all family members.
I lost a grandmother last month and expect my grandfather to leave us in the next weeks…..I just can’t say anything bad about the man’s death. After all he is someone’s husband, father, uncle, etc.
Agus go gcasfar le chéile sinn arís,
go gcoinní Dia i mbois a láimhe thú.
And until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
Thoughts and prayers to his family
“After all he is someone’s husband, father, uncle, etc”
Oh, heaven forbid, Pammy.
There can be only one. I am Dunkin Mc Cloud of the clan Mc Cloud. And now the last one has fizzled.
I am referring to his crutch , not Chappaquiddick. That would be just wrong. Imortalize WHAT ???
I understand he did a lot of work with unwed mothers, helping them get their start.
He’s finally enjoying a reunion with his brothers. A very warm reunion, in a very warm place.

Just think of all the fortunate people he personally saved from alcoholism………by drinking it all himself before they could get any
#61 – PammyV,
My prayers to you and your family.
and I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God; he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.”
And he who sat upon the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” Also he said, “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
– Revelation 21:3-5
He had quite the luxuriant white hair, he did.
He was pukebuket’s friend and supporter. Now he’s dead.
The best thing Ted Kennedy ever did was serving as the model for Mayor Quimby on the Simpsons. His philandering, buffoonish incompetence and cartoonish corruption have been entertaining American citizens for nigh on 20 years!
Mayor Quimby to Leonard Nimoy-May the uh, Force be with you!
Leonard Nimoy-Dou you even know who I am?
Mayor Quimby-Eh, weren’t you one of the little rascals?
CHOWDAH!
The family will save a lot of money on embalming.
