Republican Senator Rand Paul said that people in Congress “are not to be trusted with money.”
Absolutely. You know how we could cut government spending? Elect 535 drunken sailors.

Hey, we Irish handle tanning just fine. We burn long enough and get crispy on the outside.
I prefer the savage Irish tan spots. Get enough freckles and it looks tan-ish
Congress Handles Fiscal Responsibility Like the Irish Handle Tanning
Or, like an Atheist handles God.
@Jimmy: Exactly. And like Harvey’s ancestry is akin to Samoan? Mr. SPF 1,000 Danish.
As an ex-squid, I resemble that remark.
When reading that post I was wondering why an Irishman would want to tan his handle. Then I decided I’d rather not know.
I’m not sure drunken sailors would make better congressmen, as they’d be thrilled to take bribes in any form at any time. (We like a little decorum in our bribe-taking public servants.) But they’d have much better tattoos.
On behalf of all here with Irish blood (and a wee bit of Jameson’s) in our veins, I must quote the great P.J.O’Rourke:
“Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.”
That works, most drunken sailors I know stopped spending when they ran out of their own money.
The Irish don’t try to tan, they know it’s not going to happen. They do however go about their business, use sunscreen and if they get sun burned than that’s the price of doing what they need to do. Unlike the government who simply won’t DO anything about a problem until it’s gotten so far out of hand that it’s impossible to control. Band-aids on gunshot wounds. Aren’t we lucky they’re in charge?
