We Don’t Need the FDA, We Need Highly Caffeinated Sodas

On my previous post about the worthlessness of the FDA, blarg [High Praise!] commented:

maybe the FDA will mandate that every farmer keep a security force with jets to maintain air and land supperiority while they grow crops. Maybe one of those laser grids that blasts anything that moves.

Which reminded me that such a security force already exists:

This Is Why IMAO Exists

[High Praise! to According to Hoyt]

From Sarah Hoyt’s excellent essay, “Culture War on a Shoe String” on what you can do to fight back against liberal idiocy:
_______________

Write informed history articles/non fiction books; write blog posts; write fiction; write entertainment. Do it cheerfully. Be a happy warrior. You might think that there is no room in the blogsphere for yet another blog, and the first few days with your hits at less than a hundred will make you want to give it up. Don’t.

Meditate on a pebble thrown into a massive lake. The ripples go out. Trust me on this. One more voice always helps.

If you can consider doing humor and snark. Heinlein said something like “We laugh because it hurts too much to cry.” Take that to heart. The left is very, very funny. And at least the soft left (most of them) are in only because “all the smart people believe this.” This is the result of the long crawl, and the way to fight it is to point out how abysmally idiotic a philosophy that judges you as though everyone in a group were the same is. How it’s stupid that “this time we’ll do it right” after that philosophy has left 100 million dead around the globe. And how abysmally dumb it is to think you can create a paradise with fallible humans.

And the best way to do that is often to point and laugh. Channel your inner middle-schooler.

If writing isn’t your thing, Sarah’s got plenty of other suggestions.

If writing IS your thing, consider dropping a line to Keln of Nuking Politics (nukingpolitics@gmail.com). It’s the best Farm League for conservative writing talent outside The Green Room, and TGR is way too snooty to ever give you the shot you deserve.

Nuking Politics, on the other hand, is utterly snootless.

The Left Aren’t Open Minded? Wha?!!

According to a survey, liberals are much more likely than conservatives to block someone for having an opposing viewpoint. It’s kind of an open secret that liberals have a lot more problems dealing with opposing viewpoints than conservatives. A lot of that is because even though we conservatives are more numerous, liberals tend to dominate the media and we can never escape their viewpoints. This actually makes us stronger, as we know what liberals are thinking and why and can directly refute their ideas. Liberals, on the other hand, tend to just shut out other viewpoints and never understand them, just reacting to them screeching things like “racist!” — as fear and anger are common reactions to things people don’t understand. This is why they’re often surprised they’re ideas (like gun control) aren’t more popular as they think they own the argument when all they’ve done is cover their ears whenever the other side speaks.

The core of the left’s arguments are weak. That’s how we can win in this country (and do on some issues like guns). We just have to focus on bringing are ideas directly to the American people and not even bothering with the left who don’t even want to listen.

We Need Common Sense Legislation Control

So more in the evidence that gun-haters are not just stupid, but drooling-keep-them-away-from-hot-stoves-and-sharp-objects stupid, the hastily passed laws in New York apparently forgot to exempt law enforcement. So things like they utterly pointless limitation of magazines to seven rounds (What does this achieve? If a guy shoots up a school, we get to add an extra day to his sentence for using an illegal, out-of-state magazine?) also applied to the weapons of police officers.

Know what the problem was with this law? It was rushed through. If only we had a mandatory waiting period on gun control laws, then maybe cooler, less-stupid heads could have prevailed. Instead it was “We need tree less boolits in da magazine clips so we is safur!!” And before these legislators passed the law, was there any sort of background check to make sure they didn’t have mental health problems? We can’t just have deranged people like this running rampant like this with easy access to legislation. We need common sense legislation control. And if that accidentally causes some otherwise law abiding legislators to now be criminals… I’m fine with that because I really think locking them all up in prison would be awesome.

Random Thoughts: What’s an Assault Weapon?

If your email isn’t spam, “Hello and Good Day” is a bad way to start it.

If Obama actually had any respect for the 2nd Amendment, he would have done nothing but complain about Chicago’s gun laws.

Bunch of things might stop a madman (AWB, violent video games regulation), but know of one thing that definitely will: a bullet.

I don’t know why if people are actually worried they want to put trust in things that maybe kinda sorta will protect them.

If I were the Secretary of Defense, half my term would be spent pounding a table with my fist while shouting, “Kill them! Kill them all!”

I hope none of these laws are expecting me to turn in the high-capacity magazines I already own, because I’m not.

I mean… I don’t have any.

You ever seen a 10 rd magazine for a 15 rd gun? It’s really sad. Bottom third of the magazine is solid plastic.

I find anyone completely mystified by how a gun works a little pathetic. Why does’t our education system teach important things?

How about the American public is allowed to own any type of gun Eric Holder is comfortable selling to Mexican drug cartels.

You know, if you really don’t like liberty there’s like over a hundred different countries you can move to. We only get the one.

Know what might help make more people in America happy, we bring back that whole federalism idea. What happened to that?

Was actually really curious about when the can was invented versus the can opener. “I put all your food in cans and you can’t open it! Ha!”

“Why can’t we just have people register laser guns like we do jetpacks?” -arguments we’ll have in the future

The reason Chicago has so many murders is that is has so many fewer gun laws than the rest of the nation.

Every gun in the hand of a criminal is an “assault” weapon and no gun in the hand of the law abiding is.

I think at some point we need to really question this whole idea of letting politicians pass laws.

We should assess the mental health of politicians before letting them have access to gun control laws.
