a lot of the Pentagon budget is wasteful, for the same reason that a lot of NASA’s is – because the lawmakers on the committees overseeing it like it that way. But the other problem is that we can’t always predict what we’ll need, and in that sense, defense spending is like advertising – only half of it is effective, but no one knows which half.

The liberal mindset—if I could distill it down to its lowest common denominator—is this: It is the state’s duty to make sure that nobody loses. In every competition, every person is supposed to win, every time. I know that this doesn’t make any sense, how could it? But, in my opinion, that’s what the liberal message is. Nobody should ever have to lose as long as we give the state the power to carry out this sacred duty.

Wherein this analogy:
“Money and Property are both social constructs of the Market, which are not natural but rather invented, Redistribution is just a refinement of the model to make it more efficient, it does not make the market less efficient any more than grounding makes an electric circuit less efficient.”
Gets dismantled with extreme prejudice.

Why not a ban on high-capacity assault spending bills?

Dear @barackobama, I think at a certain point you’ve spent enough money.

[High Praise! to The Real Revo]

By the time Obama gets through, he’ll be making you quarter troops in your house without your consent, just because he can.
Obama says he will pursue a “meaningful” assault weapons ban. So good news: No assault weapons ban.
Senator Schumer is asking gun retailers to suspend sales while Congress figures out what they’re doing on the assault weapons ban. One thing I love about gun control people: They sure exist in reality.
If every industry stopped and waited while Congress tried to figure things out, that would be the end of our economy. Hey, Schumer, I have an idea: Why don’t you let business do their thing and you stop what you’re doing and wait for those people — the ones who actually know what they’re doing — to figure things out and then they’ll tell you what laws they need if any, darling. That work for you, little guy?
So if you were for some stupid reason clinging to the idea that Obama might actually do something useful with the deficit, Obama was sure to dispel that idea with his press conference yesterday when he blamed our nation’s credit downgrade not on the spending but on Congress being too slow to authorize him to spend more. And as many people have pointed out, Obama once said raising the debt ceiling would make us a deadbeat, but now says not raising it makes us a deadbeat. So when was Obama speaking the truth and when was he being a political opportunist? Answer: He’s always been a moron; never listen to him about anything.
In a just world, Obama wouldn’t have the power to spend even one dollar of our money, but it’s not a just world. So we’ll just have to work towards one day locking him and all his cronies in prison forever for how they’ve handled our nation and our money. Of course, we’ll probably be pretty broke by then and not have money to keep them in prison, but if someone started a “Keep Obama in Prison” charity, I’d donate.
So New York State is getting close to passing a new gun control law in which they are going to limit magazines to seven rounds. They already had laws limiting magazines to ten rounds, but apparently some super genius there was like, “I know the problem with gun violence: three too many rounds!”
This is just profoundly stupid. I mean, really, what’s three less rounds a magazine supposed to accomplish? And since it should be trivially easy to get higher capacity magazines from out of state and I doubt anyone ready to murder people with a gun is going to worry about having an illegal magazine, this is a law that will exclusively affect law abiding gun owners, perhaps making criminals out of many people who were never going to harm anyone. And if for some magic reason it did get criminals to have magazines with only seven rounds in it — this helps me how? The mugger can only shoot me seven times?
Anyone who votes for this law should be immediately be committed as they obviously do not have the mental capacity of an adult. In fact, were I president, I would send in the National Guard to apprehend all of New York’s legislature and its governor and send them to a mental health facility for their own protection. And then I’d tell New York to try governing itself for a year before electing any more officials to help them get perspective. We have to crack down on stupid people wielding power if we want this nation to survive. And we won’t have have justice until most of the politicians out there trying to wield power they shouldn’t have are locked up and given constant psych evaluations.
Man, the temperature in Celsius out there today is a lot like Allahpundit: Not positive.
Very near finalizing my first novel transcript, and it’s getting hard to concentrate on anything else. Then I sigh and realize it will still be a real long time until everyone gets to read it.
And I’m over 90,000 words into my first draft for my next novel. I’m going to be a novelist!
In response to Jim Geraghty, I think Dems could get a lot of unpopular gun control passed easily if they tied it to national right to carry.
Expanding right to carry at the same time would prove the gun control is not meant to target the law abiding.
Everyone understands that “assault weapons” are barely ever used in crimes since they’re not easily concealed, right?
It’s hilarious that some people don’t find the trillion dollar coin idea hilarious.
In Congress, can we kick out some of the biggest idiots in safe districts by passing a ban on dangerous assault morons?
Maybe we should pass a ban on “clips,” but word it in such a way that we’re only actually banning Clippy from further MS products.
Remember, people, Obama won an election. And in America, that plus two dollars will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
Yes, Latte’s are expensive at Starbucks, but a regular cup of coffee is under two bucks so stop trying to correct me!
Obama was a crappy president, and I’m not getting the feeling he’ll be any better these next four years.
Solution, have as little power in federal government as possible so it doesn’t matter if elected officials are useless idiots.
From Obama’s whining, he sure inherited a huge mess from himself for these next four years.
Political Prediction: Obama will have a complete mental breakdown before finishing his second term.
If magazine clips are banned, how will I clip extra ammo mags to my backpack?
I actually wants lots and lots more Star Wars movies, because that will increase the chance one of them will be really good.
I hope this Lance Armstrong thing has a twist ending, like what he’s been covering up is that he’s actually a cyborg.
I’ve always found the best apology to be a large check.
Is NY really thinking of reducing magazine capacity from 10 rds to 7? To accomplish what?
“I got the problems with murders in our state: 3 too many rounds.”
Higher capacity mags are easily available in neighboring states, and someone committing murder isn’t going to care if his mag is illegal. So the law will absolutely not affect criminals… and how would it help even if it did?
Anyone in NY who votes for that law should be immediately committed as he obviously does not have the mental capacity of an adult.
I hope the murderous criminals in NY are morally opposed to using out of state magazines.
I have 8rd magazines for my 1911s. Come and get me!
Question: Would it be legal in NY to chamber a round and then put in a full magazine, giving you 8 rounds?
My high capacity magazine goes to 11.
So is the premise that we should listen to David Frum, who is only able to annoy conservatives, on how to appeal to people?

Scientists have found a really large thing in a distant galaxy. They took a year to study and recheck the data, and they’re pretty convinced that this really big things exists.
The galaxy known as NGC 1277 — though I don’t think the people that live there call it that — is about 250 million light years from Earth. In the middle of it, is a really large black hole.
The giant black hole is about 11 times as wide as the orbit of Neptune around our sun, researchers said. The mass is so far above normal that the scientists took a year to double-check and submit their research paper for publication, according to the study’s lead author, Remco van den Bosch.
Now, unless you just happen to know the size of the orbit of Neptune, all you can know is that it’s pretty big. My math is that Neptune’s orbit is around 5.6 zillion miles. Maybe billion — I’m not that good at math. And 11 times that is … well, it’s a lot.
And that’s a black hole. The thing is huge.
But, is it the largest thing there is?
I think not. I can think of a few things that might be larger, either in size or mass.
Like what? I’m glad you asked.
What did I miss? Ideas?
