4of7, resident IMAO artist, has sent me some new artwork. The first is entitled “Dial B for Bacon (or Baby)” and was sent to celebrate the birth of my son:
The next is him trying to illustrate the idea of bacon in art form:
And the last is my favorite. He has a number of possible titles for it, but I like the idea that at the center is the Constitution which is in battle against little ninja monkeys that are hidden throughout the drawing:
I usually hate art and creativity and beauty, but I really like these.
To answer the title question: “It is now.”
bacon fractals!
The bacon one does express the concept of sizzling with incredible and compelling artistry.
Is 4 of 7 a child of the 60s? Was his mind pleasantly blown by the sounds of such groups as The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Electric Prunes, Blues Magoos, Vanilla Fudge, The Shadows of Knight, and other acid-rockers?
Because the above works are seriously p-syke-a-dellic. Album-quality work, they are.
Spin up Tomorrow Never Knows by The Beatles and stare at those for a few minutes.
Looks like Peter Max’s cat had a hairball.
@4 – Actually, I’m getting more of an Escher vibe.
Ok, maybe with a little bit of “Yellow Submarine” thrown in…
We all live in a bacon submarine
Bacon submarine

Reminds me of some of the eclectic fractal stuff featured at Cliff Pickover’s Reality Carnival.

@Harvey – you obviously know nothing about art. Escher didn’t have a cat!
Well done 4of7. I like them but then I’m also a child of the 60’s/70’s. Cream, Iron Butterfly, Santana, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd and the like. Summer, Boones Farm and fireworks. Sigh.
@10 – Wait… Boones Farm??? I thought you were of the teetotalling persuasion?
Why yes, I was a child of the 60’s.
More Andy Griffith and Leave it to Beaver than Haight-Ashbury however.
Actually, I liked Steppenwolf, The Turtles, Johnny Cash and Cat Stevens (before he went all Jihady on me).
I also liked Peter Max (Yellow Submarine – the movie) and Escher (his optical illusion stuff still fascinates me).
If I had mad computer graphics skillz, I’d be doing the full-blown fractal art, but I do the best I can do with compass, protractor, straight edge and pencils.
Jethro Tull and Boones Farm are also good.
However, I don’t listen to music (or drink) when I draw my designs; I listen to Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity while sipping coffee and dipping snuff. (Make of that what you will!) 😉
Thanks everybody for the kind comments.
PS: Harvey, I suggested to Frank that he send you The “Idea” of Bacon for your birthday, so I ain’t forgot about you, seeing as you set me the challenge in the first place.
@12 – Heh… unless Frank told SarahK to remind him, I probably won’t get it until Christmas. She’s the organized one in the family 🙂
@ 4of7: The fact that you do them by hand makes them a hundred times better than if you used a computer.
The Idea of Bacon one reminds me also of the idea of ramen noodles.
The top one could easily be sold to Boston Red Sox or Bruins fans if you made the “B” look more like their logo.
The third one is just awesome.
4 of 7:They’re beautiful. How long does it take you to finish one? They look as though they would take THOUSANDS of hours.
You’ve opened a whole new genre. Nerd art 😛
Hey Frank J? Have you heard of any of the bands they’re talking about? I think my parents listened to the Turtles.
Wow are some of these guys are old 😉
@15 – When I was a kid, my favorite band was “Ug! Me Pound Rock on Rock”.
Now get off my lawn!
#15 – Anonymiss,
All 3 of these designs were done on 9″ x 11″ acid free card stock and took about 3 days each to complete (8 hour days).
So… let’s see… 99 square inches, maybe 24 man hours at say, $10/hour… that comes to $2.40 per square inch – times 3…
Eh, no charge!
Enjoy, download ’em, share ’em with your friends, print ’em on t-shirts!
I’ll make more. 😉
Ug! Me Pound Rock on Rock?
I loved that band! They played at my high school prom!
Have you heard of any of the bands they’re talking about?
Tough being relevant in these seemingly neo-apocalyptic days of Beliebers.
(Good thing I didn’t mention John’s Children, Moving Sidewalks (h/t to Billy Gibbons), Lollipop Shoppe (h/t to the legendary Fred Cole), The Gonn, or Zakary Thaks!)
…my favorite band was “Ug! Me Pound Rock on Rock
Those guys just released a vid on YouTube and are kicking off their reunion tour at The Greek Theatre. McLagan and The Bunp Band is the support act supposed to draw in the tweenies and teenies.
@16 “Now get off my lawn!”
For someone who is allergic to grass, I get that a LOT.
The top one could easily be sold to Boston Red Sox or Bruins fans if you made the “B” look more like their logo.
For Tha Sawx, shooah, wicked trippy cools…no bacon logo for Tha Broons…they dinnah earn it this ye-ah! (Flippin’ last minute loss to Chicago!)
@19 – *throws grass at Anonymiss*
Now git offa mah lawn afore I makes you itchy!
