Oscar Hammerstein II, lyricist for Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers, and some other quite notable songwriters, was born July 12, 1895, in New York. Here is the, as always, incomparable Ella Fitzgerald singing perhaps the greatest song ever written – “All the Things You Are”, with music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II:
