Well, I guess since everyone is talking about finding out who the mysterious “Deep Throat” really is, I guess I should say something.
First off, before this, if I had to guess who Deep Throat was, I would have said Ben Stein. That’s because I can only name three people who from memory who worked for the Nixon administration – Ben Stein, Spiro Agnew, and G. Gordon Liddy. I’m pretty certain G. Gordon Liddy didn’t do it, so, after a coin flip, my guess is Ben Stein.
Then again, I guess President Ford is another I could name who was involved with Nixon, and he would have the motive…
Well, too late. We know who Deep Throat is, and it’s some guy I never heard of. I mean, all this happened before I was born, and I’m not ever sure what it’s about. This guy talked to some reporters – I think they were played by Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte in a movie – to uncover some scandal about a gate – a scandal so horrible that it sunk a president right after he swept 49 states in reelection.
Well, that’ll teach Nixon to create the EPA.
At least now that chapter in history that I never bothered reading has been closed.
Now let’s go back to talking about war.
Carter was so much better a president anyways.

I find it all very interesting (but I was alive during Watergate). And you have to know that it was Robert Redford, not Nick Nolte (remember, Redford is involved with any movie that rips on a Republican president). I don’t like him and all that plastic surgery doesn’t help either.

The war in IRAQ is inhuman. It has nothing to do with terrorists and everything to do with oil. The number of innocent iraqi’s killed has far exceeded the number of people killed during 9/11. If america wages a war with IRAQ because it is an opressive state why doesn’t it invade Korea? If america wants a war against an Al Qaeda supporting country why doesn’t it attack Saudi Arabia? If America wants a war to free people from slaughter why doen’t it clean up in Rwanda or Sudan?

That’s communist propganda. The extent to which Oil is a factor is that it’s an easy resource for him to use to quickly get money to do unscroupulous things with, much like drugs.

Because North Korea is more of a threat to China than it is to us, and since China is stratically staying out of the whole extremist muslim thing to reduce our resources, we should allow them to get tied up with the North Koreans to reduce theirs. We have more forces in the Pacific than we do in the Middle East, and the real conflict is coming with China in the next decade. As Kerry put it, terrorism is just a nuisance.
As for Saudi Arabia, most people do want to take them out. I totally agree with you there, unfortunately there are too many logistical problems with that. The Saudis have rigged their entire oil infrastructure to blow up if they are pushed out of power, and the effect of that will actually be very devestating, regardless of what we want to admit to ourselves.
As for Sudan and Rawanda, I agree with you there too to an extent. Those two countries have a lot of things wrong with them, the genocide is just one of those things. If you oust Saddam in Iraq, they have an entire oil infrastructure to use to get back on their feet. Sudan and Rawanda are much more primitive, and don’t have any sort of banana republic they can set up in the mean time. The net result will be that we kill a bunch of people, and the people we don’t kill are still poor and dying anyway.
Iraq on the other hand has potential.

Anyway, China is gathering allies and forces in order to make a move to dominate the Pacific. North Korea is a threat to their influence there, not to ours. It’s much better to let China deal with them.

These same narcissistic boomers are trying to relive their youths. Iraq is Vietnam, Bush is Nixon…and with enough “investigation”, another iconic powerful “conservative” leader will be brought to his knees to usher in a period of social and economic enlightenment.

Liberal like to ask a lot of actually very good questions that they believe are rhetorical. You can throw them off balance by actually supplying answers for those questions.
That’s what made 9/11 such a painful movie to watch. All of his assertions and implications were set up as rhetorical questions with very sensible answers, that he used to lead you to a false conclusion.
I hated sitting through the movie, listening to him ask a question, thinking “I know the answer! Choose me!” and then watch as he drew a conclusion that completely defied logic.

I always assumed that there was no Deep Throat, that Woodward and Bernstein made him up in order to have a second source for their Watergate articles. I’m still not entirely convinced.
other than a delusional old man’s claims (and many thought this clown – who was pardoned by Reagan for his crimes of black ops – was likely the source) to be Deep Throat … much of the evidence still points to there being multiple sources.
Furthermore, I find it rather incredulous that a movie starring REDford and a book by the two perps leads everyone to believe these two “heros of the revolution” actually did any investigating. Outside of printing information from “leaks”, anything they investigated was not really related to Watergate at all (like the “dirty tricks” stuff).
