i was initially mad that these idiots were looting, and then i realized that the goods will probably be written off as a total loss and salvaged out anyway, and any idiot who wants to swim around in that sewage/oil/chemical water is probably going to get sick for all their trouble–hopefully they all get cholera or die from “lead poisoning”

Keep in mind some looters might just be people who are stranded out there and have run out of food and other essentials. And if I was in that boat I assure you I’d be out there doing whatever it took to keep my family alive and healthy until we could reach help or vice versa.
Stealing food and water is one thing.
However, I am unaware of the nutritional value of DVDs, flat-screen TVs, big boxes full of sneakers, etc. Maybe they’re taking these items in order to build a raft.
Or maybe they’re just opportunistic scum, propagating chaos in a disaster area. There is a reason that looters were shot in the past, and that reason still applies.
Vengeance may be God’s domain, but maintenance of public order to allow relief workers to do their jobs without being shot by roving gangs of thugs is our domain.

And yet the candy-assed officials at all levels are shaking their rulers and saying that “looters WILL be put in jail.” Dumb assess…what jails? They’re all trashed, and the thugs know it. I think a “shoot to kill” order needs to be issued before things will calm down.
This whole situation is a GREAT boost for arguments in support of withdrawing any and all limits on private gun ownership. My SKS would make short work of any dirtbags who came through the window uninvited…
