…but I don’t really get this airplane “scandal” with Speaker Pelosi. I’ve been ignoring it since it first broke just because it sounded boring, but my understanding is that all Pelosi wanted was to fly across country without having to stop to refuel… something thousands of people do everyday. The only complication seems to be that the military would fulfill this request in an absurdly expensive way… as the military tends to do. Still, what we have here is the person second in line for the presidency wanting to fly home non-stop, and that ranks pretty low on my elitism scale.
Come on! Ted Kennedy probably does something more outrageous every afternoon when he inevitably loses his pants. Are we bloggers getting so lazy that this is the best scandal we could find? I’m disappointed. At least photoshop Pelosi stealing money from orphans to pay for another face lift… or something else marginally creative.
I do wish I could get non-stop flights, though…
I don’t have a problem with her flying home non-stop. It’s the round-trip that bothers me…
I have an answer to Pelosi’s problem. It’s called NWA, Delta, Continental etc! I think they have even figured out how to fly cross-country NON-STOP–it is 2007 after all! We might even pony up and buy her a 1st class ticket–although I’d prefer to box her up and ship her in the cargo hold–
I don’t think it’s the request for the plane so much as the fact she wants a wide body to haul her wide butt to California.
Not to mention the hypocracy of it all. The fuel costs for a plane of that size are huge, and think of all the CO2 it produces. The USAF has a number of small business class jets that would fit the bill just fine.
Personally I think she should just be stuffed into a FedEx plane and shipped to San Francisco with the rest of the cargo. 🙂
If she’s so concerned about security, there are several military bases spread across the us at which they could land to refuel.
Of course, the dems have dissed the troops so much lately, she’s probably safer landing at a regular airport.
Wait a sec. With as much as she makes in “Lobbying” and other forms of “business”, she should just buy a Lear jet and be done with it.
Secondly, no one would mind if it was her jumping into an Air force Jet and scooting home. But she wants a jet big enough for her family, friends, and fellow Californian hippies to be on stand-by. Sorry, no dice. It’s not a party flight. She is important? (Gag!) But the rest can hitch-hike, or pay their own way commercially.
Personally, I think that as long as they deliver her in the best military fashion … opening the bomb bay doors and pushing … she should be allowed to use a large military plane.
I think that in all fairness, she should be treated just as Speaker Hastert was … a smaller business jet flight to Illinois. She may not want to go to Illinois … but we’re talking fairness and equality here!
Hastert had a private plane for his personal use, why should she get one?
