Unfortunately, I missed this poll from John Hawkins. It’s on right-leaning bloggers’ presidential choices. Now, the bloggers’ preference out of the Republican candidates is pretty obvious, but what about if Fred Thompson isn’t a choice? What if it’s between McCain and Huckabee and sucking on the barrel of a gun isn’t an option? The answer might surprise you!

I’d pick the .45.
I’m not so surprised by the answer… At least Mccain isn’t from Arkansas.
The results are pretty complicated. Hard to read anything into it except that the right wing of the Republican Party supports Fred Thompson. But the right wing is not controlling, unlike 1982….
At least we know the informed people aren’t crazy. If Fred Thompson isn’t the nominee, I can rest secure in the knowledge that I might find solace in our virtual meeting ground. What else can you do when reality ceases to make sense?
I’m laughing at the fact that both Ron Paul & Bill “No, really, I’m Hispanic!” Richardson both got scores to match their political accomplishments.
I noticed that the puppy blender sent his wife out to do battle for him.
I liked Duncan Hunter in the past but it seems to me after reading some of the statements he’s made since getting left out of the latest debates that he’s gone a bit off the deep end.
I see two trends: right-wingers long for a Conservative candidate, and a strong anybody-but-Huckabee current
since Thompson hasn’t caught on with the people who will chose the nominee–I guess we can only hope that the field will be so fractured by convention time, that someone palatable will be able to shift a lot of votes off people like Huckabee and McCain
what we REALLY need, is a real conservative that excites the base to come in and start up an entirely new campaign — who that might be, i have no idea — since clinton appears to be the dem candidate, perhaps Jeb Bush would be viable?
ultimately, I blame W for putting us in this position — Cheney could very easily have resigned for “health reasons” a year ago, and allowed W to put in his successor — since W isn’t a real conservative I suppose that choice would have been lousy (ala Harriet Meyers) — but at least we would have had an heir apparent
Since the theme for the Dems seems to be “Let’s elect someone based not on their qualifications or accomplishments, but rather on the basis of race/sex/religion”, aka Affirmative Action, we coulda knocked ’em for a loop if we had Rice or Powell as candidates.
It could be even more ridiculous; imagine Cynthia McKinney running- “This whole Mid-East thang ain’t nuthin’ but much ado ’bout unfair Jews.”
Cadet, I think your analysis is very perceptive. Right now, I’m hoping for a brokered convention… a smoke-filed room – but on TV !
The reality is that McCain is going to be the nominee.
Huckabee is unacceptable to the “Thank you, sir may I have another (Paycut)” economic conservatives who think that if we just let the Corporate America screw us a little more, they might actually kiss us afterwards.
Guliani is unacceptable to Republicans with any sense of moral decency. Yes, there are a few of us left, believe it or not.
Romney is unacceptable to the non-Mormon Android population. He’s gone after next Tuesday.
Fred is just acting as a stalking horse for McCain, and I am starting to wonder if that wasn’t his function all along. (Except he was supposed to go after Giuliani, not Huckabee in the original plan.) Honestly, I’m feeling like we’ve all been played here.
McCain is probably the least unacceptable to all factions, and he’ll lose as badly as Dole did in 1996.
Man, #11, you’re spending a lot of time coming here to let everyone know that you just don’t agree. I realize that this is a weekend, but that’s no reason not to fill out some job applications. I know you’re bored, but there’s really no need to keep annoying others with your political autism.
Either it’s a slow week at Daily Kos, or you just crave attention from your betters. Fine, here you go, tiger:
Hey champ, you’re a winner! Good job typing all those sentences! Are you ready for a juice box & some graham crackers now, or are you sleepy from all that button pressing? All those pesky ‘Publicans make you cranky, don’t they, yes they do li’l buddy.
Feel better now? Or did you want to bore with us how the Democrats are going to win some more?
12#- Thank you, I am already gainfully employed. But thanks for your insincere concern.
I feel I am fighting for the soul of my party, the party i have supported since 1980. It seems like some people want to run it over a cliff by alienating the very people they need to support it, and I guess that is fine, if that’s what you want to do, but I would rather not.
McCain would be an awful candidate. A lot of conservatives will shrug their shoulders and stay home. Yet it seems, now that Fred has pretty much fizzled, you guy are willing to support a guy you all hate because you are terrified a Christian Leader might actually convert the party to Christianity.
12#- Thank you, I am already gainfully employed.
Really? Let me guess: is it a call center, or was that your last job? I know how touchy you are about East-Indians answering the phones now.
…you guy
are willing to support a guy you all hate because you are terrified a Christian Leader might actually convert the party to Christianity.OK, maybe I missed something… who is it you think we all support (aside from Thompson… who, BTW, doesn’t have the full support of everyone who comes here)? Who do you think we support & hate at the same time, and how on earth (assuming that’s where you are too, although I’m betting you aren’t in America… England, maybe?) do you figure that 1)we’re terrified of any candidate, and 2) that a Christian candidate is going to convert anyone to Christianity?
Let’s say either Hillary or Obama wins… and it’s a good possibility… big f**kin’ deal! Is it frightening? No, it’s not. Irritating, sure, but not frightening. We are, for the most part, conservatives who know that sometimes, a part of the battle is waiting to resume control & clean things up.
We’ve done it many times before. I’m sure that if a Conservative doesn’t get elected, we’ll do it again later.
My question is, why aren’t you touchy about good American jobs going to someone in a foreign country? Why isn’t EVERYONE outraged about that? (NO, that isn’t a job I’ve had, but I will stop using any service where “Pradip” answers my customer service call. I fired AOL for exactly that reason.)
Obviously, you are missing the point. It seems to me that you would rather have Hillary or Obama win than Huckabee. You would rather nominate McCain (Thompson was never anything but a stalking horse for McCain; doesn’t that make you feel betrayed?)
Good example. Thompson barely touched on the fact that McCain wanted to give outright Amnesty to all 12-20 million who are alrady here. However, he spent a good deal of time bashing Huck for (gasp) wanting to give instate tuition to kids who had grown up in the Arkansas school system. That’s not a guy who has a position, that’s a guy who is doing someone else’s dirty work.
And here’s the ugly reality. The Corporate Scumbags who want to destroy Huckabee so bad WANT illegal aliens. They want someone they can hire for less than minimum wage and no benefits to drive the wages for the rest of us down.
Anyone have a tally on how many times in the last several weeks Joe has said “Thompson is just a stalking horse for McCain”, either here or other blogs? I bet it’s a lot.
Just out of curiosity, since all corporations are obviously evil empires & all, who do you work for, Joe? Just to be clear, I don’t think American companies should be outsourcing anything to other countries, but face it; this isn’t a new phenomenon. To blame Bush for it is naive. Corporations have a the right to do business however they choose within the law & you don’t seem to realize that almost all corps. put profits first. I dislike many of their practices, and so you know, I was directly affected by AOL’s poor decisions. But as it turned out, life went on!
But what are you going to do? Impose sanctions on those companies? There’s nothing really stopping them from packing up & leaving altogether (thanks Bush Sr., Slick Willy & NAFTA).
Hey, if the pack up and leave, then they are officially a foreign company. We can then impose huge freakin’ tarrifs on them to make their products unaffordable. Works for me.
(Actually, at one time, our Federal government was entirely funded by tariffs and excises, before they got the brilliant idea to tax individuals instead and give corporations huge tax breaks by reducing them.)
Yes, I expect corporations to do things to make a profit. So we make undesirable activities unprofitable. Just like when Ford let Pintos out on the road, because it would be cheaper to pay lawsuits to the folks killed by exploding gas tanks than to recall a few million units of car they knew was defective. Well, when they upped how much Ford paid in settlements, they started recalling.
Actually, I initially supported Thompson. That’s how I found out about this blog. Then when he ran a campaign that looked like a lump on a log, I just assumed the media had it right about him and he was lazy. Now he’s showing some life, all right, but its just bashing Huckabee so McCainiac doesn’t antagonize the Christians again.
Yeah, drive ’em out & impose huge freakin’ tariffs! That so worked with foreign made goods like cars, steel, toys, textiles, etc, not to mention that that will certainly help the unemployment rate here, as corporations only employ a teeny tiny percentage of Americans.
Good plan there, Joe.
Hey, the reason that we have lost those industries is because we don’t have tariffs, and in some cases, we’ve actually subsidized moving jobs offshore.
We’ve had free trade treaties like NAFTA and MFN for the butchers of Tianamen that let them dump tons of cheap goods into our market, driving our industries out of business.
Screw the working guy, keep those profits up. The modern Republican Party, soon to join the Federalists and Whigs as people who never saw it coming. Even Corporate America is already shifting its money to buying of the Democrats.
Even Corporate America is already shifting its money to buying of the Democrats.
Again, like outsourcing, that isn’t some new phenomena. Unless you’re still in prep school, you’d realize that historically, Democrats are notorious of selling out at the drop of a ruble while accusing the Right of being disingenuous.
Hey JoeB131,
Don’t you realize that corporations never actually paid taxes? They have always passed them along to the consumer. Taxing business is counter-productive and the higher the taxes, the more incentive to take their business elsewhere. We have some of the highest corp taxes in the industrialized world. It is a wonder we have any businesses left. You think Thompson is a stalking horse, and I think you are a braying ass.
