Better Not Lick the Paint Job

So Hugo Chavez is buying Chinese combat planes. How is that like the opposite of threatening? I’m sure the Chinese combat planes are very reasonably prices, but we’re all quite familiar with Chinese workmanship these days. I’m guessing if you’re evil and can’t afford old Russian surplus, China is the way to go.
Still, what if Chavez attacks the U.S. with his planes and they crash all over America? If they stay up long enough for us to shoot them down, do we have to worry about the lead in them getting airborne? Some things to worry about.

  1. I suppose we could embarrass them by dropping pieces of gum on their runways and watching them get stuck on take-off roll.
Remember how we kept hearing that China was going to start exporting cars to the US and undercut the whole industry worldwide? Then remember how they ran a Taurus-sized car through a crash test and showed the video on the news of this thing collapsing like a beer can (it would have been funny if it weren’t so horrifying). Suddenly we heard zilch about Chinese cars coming to the US. I found an old Popular Mechanics podcast on iTunes where someone said that the show cars China put out were so poor in fit that had a car been wrecked and come back from the body shop in that condition, it would be rejected (remember, these were SHOW cars).
A friend flew a China in-country flight some years ago and asked the flight attendant why she didn’t go over crash procedures. “CRASH PROCEDURES! HA! We crash you die!”, she bellowed somewhat smugly.
    Yeah, no doubt.

  2. I would rather Chavez spend all of his country’s money on sub-standard planes, subs, tanks, etc. than on supporting terrorist organizations. I mean really, what is the worst that could happen? Our boys could really use more target practice. Seriously, we could tell Chavez that we are sending one squadron of F-22’s and even spot him the time of day and they would still destroy every one of his MIG’s.
