No More Talk

I’m getting tired of these “intellectuals”, especially on the conservative side. It’s time we stop affording anyone any respect unless they’ve actually accomplished something. And getting a special degree from a college or a literary award don’t count as accomplishments. Accomplishments are businesses you’ve created or enemy foreigners you’ve killed. Real things that helps this country. We just have way too many talkers, and they are worthless by themselves. As an engineer, I’ve many times taken research papers — the ideas of really really smart people — and finds it all turns to complete crap when you try to apply it in a real situation. That’s why I’ve learned you don’t trust the ideas of people who just think all day and don’t build any real things.

The next time someone starts talking about what Republicans and Conservatives need to do, you ask him, “What the hell have you done?” Unless the person can list any actual accomplishments to back up his knowledge, ignore him.

Wait… what if someone asked me , “What the hell have you done?” I guess I’d say… um…

Know what? Screw this; it’s a bad idea.

  1. What is the productive output of an engineering professor or student getting a Masters or PhD? Paper.

That is why so many papers are crap. The student wants his degree. Most people do not have good ideas. Thus it is produce at any cost because I want my degree situation

This is why global warming is “studied” so much with ever greater catastrophes bound to occur. If we would only listen!

You think its bad in electrical engineering? — You should talk to a friend of mine in chemistry working on Phd. You have not see ANYTHING. And this with a hard-ish science.

I can only imagine what an English literature degree would be like. Holy Carp! It has to be lufwa god dog awful.

  2. Frank, this is actually a very good metric for determining whether or not to listen to someone. For example, when I read issues of the Harvard Business Review, I find that most of the articles were written by management consultants, not actual business owners. The consultants’ interest is in promoting their latest fad management style and they are typically useless.

  3. I bake and ship oatmeal cookies to the troops. By the time they arrive, they are hard as all git-out and my son swears they make great ammo.

Assisting in the extermination of jihadists (yeah, I said it!) and saving taxpayer dollars. Does this count?

  4. Death by a freedom loving cookie. I laughed so hard I cried!

Let’s see Electronics Tech (I hate Engineers) fixing broken things. Student, becoming a self-loathing electrical engineer. So I can say I used to accomplish something but not anymore.

  5. I have taken raw pieces of steel, done the trig, machined, ground, assembled, and tried out in the press to make sheet metal stamping dies. Any of you that own Whirlpool or Maytag washing machines and dryers, well you are very welcome.

Eric, hell yes that counts! Alpha Bravo!

  6. Intellectuals spend more time chuckling at their own perceived wit than they do wondering if their “vote for McCain in the primaries then vote for Obama” might not have been such a good idea. I hope the ghost of Bill Buckley harrasses his fruity little spawn for a good long time.

  7. I started a business. Its only employee is me, but, still, it’s a business. I’ve also bicycled Mount Hamilton thirteen times, run a 5K in under 17:30, and drunk vast quantities of beer. And I’ve stayed single for more than fifty-six years.

  8. Frank, you started IMAO. That’s seriously good work for freedom, and for the sanity of those who love it. God bless you for that. If I encounter someone else calling me a chicken-hawk, I’ll explain that among other things someone has to defeat the fifth column in warfare. Those of us who stay home and fight the battle of ideas are just as valuable as those in the field in winning, or more accurately preventing the wins in the field from becoming losses when liberals defund the troops in combat or the governments of the democracies we saved or created afterwards.

The only bad thing you’ve done is taken Sarah K off the market. Sometimes I read something you say and think, “It’s too bad Frank isn’t blessed with the fame and fortune he deserves”. Then I notice the IMAO t-shirt babe photo and think, “You incredibly lucky SOB. How did a dork like you manage to…. Oh well. I guess it balances out.”

Seriously, when IMAO had a podcast and I had a year from Hell, your collective wit was about the only thing I had to look forward to any given week. To 99 people you may be humor, but there’s still a person or two at any given moment for whom you are a lifeline to keep them out of complete dispair.

What do I do? I’ve done a lot of volunteer work to get machines and people to Mars. Red states are great, but a red PLANET – one the Russians can’t seem to land on – Yeah, baby! And 50 million miles from Pelosi!

  9. Just like Scooter above, I’ve toiled in dark, dank machine shops for years. If you’ve ever had a clogged artery cleaned, watched a Shuttle launch, or used plywood for anything, part of my soul is there.
Now, thanks to NAFTA and the demolition of the manufacturing sector of our economy, I’m a blogger. A starving blogger, but a blogger.
I hope my real world experience counts.

  10. What do I produce? The future of this country. It may not seem tangible, but I homeschool my kids. That’s 2 fewer future leaders that will have been indoctrinated my the publik skool system, and 2 more that will actually have some sense about them.

Oh, and I knit pretty things and cook yummy things.

  11. I started a home-based microbusiness and I homeschool my kids (I have 4, but only 2 are school age). And I cook pretty things and knit yummy things, or something like that. Also I taught math for 10 years, until it started getting really demoralizing. I’d spend the first 10 weeks of a 16 week semester trying to convince the students that yes, it was possible for them to get an F even if they did do a half-@$$ed job.

  12. Okay, I’m at a loss to come up with something productive that I do.

Which puts me on par with the left. Ouch.

But, I’m a very irritating person, and am capable of making someone feel like a total jackass, as well as push their buttons and keep them so angry they could spit.

So, here’s the deal. I’ll be a distraction. I’ll argue with the lefties, and the rest of you do something useful.

  13. I’ve created three new conservatives where once there was nothing. 😉

As my 5yo headed off to school Tuesday morning she said, “I hope Sarah Palin and that other guy win.” I hated to break her heart Wednesday morning. 🙁

  14. I’ve actually used my library and desktop publishing educational cred to create from scratch a kick-ass virtual library intranet website for our organization that serves our nation’s military veterans and their healthcare providers. And we’ve brought the local military base on board to share half the costs.

  15. I fix the computers of the fabricators, engineers, accountants, supply chain managers, executives, sales people, lawyers, etc. that make the semiconductor components in use in almost every consumer electronic, automobile, embedded machine out there. I help keep the business in business in the geeky shadows in which I lurk.

  16. I, too, am training up future leaders! 4 of them and more to come! And because of that I barely sleep, hardly get showers every day (don’t worry, I still don’t smell like a hippie), and my husband and I have to lock ouselves in our room just to have a conversation (and sex, but alas – I divulge too much). This all sounds very productive, doesn’t it????

  17. I am the most unintellectual of you all. But I’ve been a volunteer for Soldiers Angels, Gathering of Eagles and sing in my church choir and am a soloist where I prefer singing about God in a church as opposed to singing in a club, which I used to do a little bit. I sometimes write to contribute to the party that lost, I try to be a good person every day and kind to people. I did not graduate college, because I found it useless for me personally. I am a student of IMAO’s intelligence and vigor. I wish I had gotten married and had kids, but I should not regret the past. I am really a woman but feel like a girl.

  18. Long ago, I served as a USN officer.
I spent the last 7-years testing electrical devices (mostly medical) to make sure they wouldn’t electrocute you or catch fire. I left that job this year, and now work for a medical device manufacturer in a related field.

#29 Shiny – I worked at a USMC command for 2.5 years, and qualified expert with an M-16 numerous times (100, 300, and 500 yds). Does that count?

Frank – Operator error. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
You created IMAO.US, so stop slacking off and write more HellBender.

  19. I serve in a branch of my state’s military forces, where are primary duty is emergency response and disaster relief. It is an all-volunteer force and statewide deployments can last from a few days to a month or more. We’re paid when we’re deployed, otherwise we have to pay for everything ourselves, including our uniforms. It really is a labor of love, but we are indispensible to the state emergency services.

I also volunteer with a regional K9 search and rescue unit.

My full-time, capitalist pig job is in sales. If I don’t work (like when I’m deployed with my guard unit) I don’t get paid.

I attempt to balance these two volunteer activities with a time-consuming, full-time job, with an amazing wife, with my 17 month-old daughter, with my two week old son, and with a burning desire to save this country from the commie bastards that bought their way into positions of power all across the country.

I intend to do everything I have set out to do.

I have been very vocal for several years about the political state of affairs in this country. However, I’ve never worked for a campaign or done anything substantive other than write hundreds and hundreds of letters to my elected officials, local papers, judges, and everyone else that I see f***ing thigs up for the rest of us.

I took off work on 6 November for a day of mourning, soul searching, and planning. On 7 November, I started making phone calls and talking to folks, and by the end of the day had sown some early seeds of what I hope is a true revolution.

I found IMAO in the early morning hours of Day 1 of the New Civil War. Frank J and others here provided the impetus for me to jump in and help take back the GOP from the candyass moderates who are destroying conservatism.

    It will be done!

  20. Where’s that guy who posts as BO? He usually jumps into this to tell us what he’s going to do (mostly to racist crackers). Maybe for once BO could jump in and provide details on what he has accomplished in his life. Even if we don’t agree they are real accomplishments, it would be nice to fill in some details. Many of us, for example, are still wondering what anyone can achieve as a “community organizer”…
