Words of Encouragement from IMAO

Things are looking scary up ahead. The economy is tanking and apparently Obama is planning the suicidal step of more taxes to pay for all his exorbitant spending. He’ll be raising taxes on those making $250,000 or more, i.e., job creators. It’s literally retarded; you cannot have normal mental processes and think raising taxes in this economy is not a horrible, dangerous thing. I expected Obama to be a screw up as he’s never run anything in his life, but at least on some things where experience fails you’d think there would be basic common sense.

But I digress. The point is, things are looking bad, but this is America. It’s too strong for even Obama to screw up. We just have to keep our heads above waters and after the next few years of misery there will be tons of opportunities. Dirt cheap stocks and real estate will abound and anyone with a little money left after all this is over will be able to get rich easy. So, if you just survive the next couple years, are able to put a little bit of money aside for investing, you will be abound with riches in the future. And if you don’t survive, you will be remembered.

Be honorable, ronin.

Alternate Names for the “Assault Weapons” Ban

Since actual assault weapons are already regulated and very hard for a civilian to own in America (to the point they’re pretty much never used in a crime), I had thought the act to ban random semi-autos needed a more accurate name than the “Assault Weapons Ban”. Here’s some more ideas:

* The Piss Off People with Guns Act

* The Not All the Nazis’ Ideas Were Bad Act

* The Disarming Law Abiding People Sure Is Easier than Disarming Criminals Act

* The Sissies Scared of Loud Noise Act

* The Freedom Is too Scary Act

* The Ban as Many Guns as We Can Trick People into Allowing Act

* The I Don’t Know Crap About Guns, But I’m Told These Ones Are Bad Act

* The Impossible to Vote for If You Have Functioning Male Parts Act

Taking Chance

I usually like my movies to just be lighthearted fun because I’m getting tired of the silly people in Hollywood feeling like they have any useful experiences from which to teach me anything (if I wanted to be lectured on morality and life, Hollywood directors, actors, and screenwriters would certainly not be my first choice for the task), but I saw the movie Taking Chance over the weekend and I’m am genuinely grateful to everyone involved for making it. It’s free of any political message, and instead tries its best to be an accurate, respectful portrayal of the true account of a fallen Marine (PFC Chance Phelps) being escorted home and the reactions from others in the military and ordinary citizens. It makes you proud of not just the military, but Americans in general. It’s also very lean movie with about an 85 minute running time, and I was impressed with both the craftsmanship with which the movie was made and the respect for its subject matter.

The story first appeared on Black Five back in 2004 if you haven’t read it. The movie is still running on HBO and will soon be available on DVD. Do not miss it.
