Key Word: Once

From noted race-baiting idiot Toure’s Twitter: “Data shows that for the avg person the chance to use a gun against a criminal is a once in a lifetime event.”

And if you don’t have a gun, it could be a last in a lifetime event.

  1. How interesting. I’ve also read that most cops never have to draw their weapons during their entire career as a LEO. I guess we should just disarm police officers then, because their having to draw a weapon is a once in a lifetime event?
Actually, given recent events in L.A. and Cincinatti, disarming cops might be a huge step forward for public safety.

  2. Is Toure drinking again? At worst, he’s throwing out junkfacts (show me the data; show me the source; define your parameters). And at best, he’s making a compelling argument that every honest and responsible citizen should, no, must be armed.

  3. So, limiting the magazine to 8 rounds gives you 8 times more protection than you will ever need. (Good guys can take out a bad guy with a fully automatic military-grade machine gun with just one pistol shot. Don’t you guys watch all those Hollywood movies documentaries?)

Yep, and they do it with the hand-cannon pointed all sideways an’ cool an’ gangsta looking too!

  5. John D says: I’ve never had to use my fire extinguishers. Does that mean I shouldn’t be allowed to own them?

Lucky you. I’ve had to use mine twice – once to extinguish kitchen curtains ignited by a jet of flame from an elderly gas range in a ratty rental house that suffered metal fatigue (some critical metal piece on the burner just fell off, and whooooosh!), and once to put out an electrical fire when I dropped an entire stock pot full of soup on another gas range, shorting out the electric ignition and starting fires on the range top and in 3 kitchen outlets. You will take my fire extinguishers away when you pry them from my scorched, blistered hands.

  6. Being a typical white person, I had to look up who this guy is, still not sure but it says he grew up in Boston and went to Milton Academy. Seeing that that’s a megabucks private school that has very high standards, I’m going to bet that A: he didn’t pay to go there like 98% of the other kids and B: he had no business going there. Much like our governor, Duhval Patrick, another one who managed to be rich and powerful without ever really having a job.

Maybe if he had grown up in da hood, he’d realize that depending on where you live, there might be many opportunities to “need” a gun.

  7. The norm for law enforcement officers is that they go their whole careers without ever having to shoot at a human, not that they never draw their gun. Drawing the gun, or presenting the shotgun or rifle is actually fairly common, it works better to have something in one’s hands when saying stop or I shoot!

Believe it or not there are a lot of criminals who do not go to jail voluntarily. Nor do rapists and robbers stop when one says “please”. The odds are that no one reading this will ever have to use a weapon yet if the odds go against us our lives, and those of our families and friends will depend on our mindset and our skill. And mindset comes first.
