You Will Die From Ebola Because Sandwich

“On any given day, 49% of US adults will eat at least one sandwich.”

The data comes from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It’s based on interviews with more than 5,000 adults age 20 and older who were asked about absolutely everything they ate on two separate days.

Yeah, that’s the kind of thing the CDC is spending your money on.

But, on the bright side, they’ve discovered the 25 most popular sandwich fillings in the process.

  1. I find it hilarious that they made separate categories for:
    Processed cheddar or American cheese
Natural cheddar or American cheese, and
    Cheddar or American cheese (unspecified)
    {#4: derringer?}

. . . rather than one grouping. But I’m not a scientific-y science-y statistics cruncher. Are they trying to cloak the popularity of these cheeses?

And who gives a crap whether mayonnaise is low-cal or not? It’s like a micron of your sammich.

  2. They seem to have deemed hamburgers and hot dogs to be “sandwiches,” thus increasing results for catsup, mustard, and uncooked onions, and cheese. But they exclude chicken sandwiches, except for the luncheon-meat variety. One wonders why.

    I distrust this CDC study.

(More than I distrust those people making peanut butter sandwiches without jelly.)

And butter is not on the list?

    Ri-i-i-ight.

  3. Nobody in this group had a sandwich with roast beef … pastrami … pepperoni … P&P loaf … SALAMI, for God’s sake?

I’m sorry, I just can’t let this study go unchallenged.

Must be impossible to run a Subway shop in that area.

  4. Lettuce is first.

    LETTUCE.

I really hate lettuce. It doesn’t taste like anything. It’s like the green version of rice cakes.

Were the respondents school children who only eat Michellunches? Did the poor things have no choice?

    That must be it.

Either that, or they polled rabbits.
