Thursday Night Open Thread

A lot of people liked Tom Petty. I mentioned before that I never sought out his songs, but I never turned the radio off when they came on. I liked his stuff better than I realized. And, recently while going through some of his music, looking for a video to share tonight, actually, I heard even more that I liked. Now I’m kinda sad that I wasn’t a fan.

Why was a listening to many Tom Petty songs instead of one particular one, especially for a Thursday Night (some of you understand what’s behind that question)? The answer is style vs direct. Some of you understand that answer. If you don’t, it’s not a big deal. Just enjoy the music.

  1. I liked some of his stuff. I never owned an album, or listened to one, so I don’t know how his non-radio stuff sounds.

Did you see any Travelling Wilburys while looking?
I liked some of their stuff.

  2. One of the first videos I saw on MTV was “You Got Lucky” and liked it a lot. I had the Alvin and the Chipmunks version of “Refugee” on the album Chipmunk Punk. I like the live version of “Breakdown” where the audience sings instead of him, then he starts free-versing and he loses me. Lots of good stuff. I think my favorite son by him is “The Waiting” but that might not be the actual name of the song.

I remember liking “Don’t Come Around Here No More” but not really anything after that. Except his role in King of the Hill.

  3. Listening to deep tracks radio. it seems that every week I hear another song by Petty that I didn’t know existed.
He was a talented individual with a wry sense of humor, and probably one of the butt ugliest boys on the planet.
    My kind of artist.
And, BTW, I’ve never heard any political guidance coming from him, so that’s another plus.
