I kinda liked A Nightmare On Elm Street when it came out. Kinda. But, yeah, there were questions.
It’s kinda a shame that the sequels are never as good as the original.

@ Basil, oooh, now there might be a good comment thread, worthy sequels that lived up to their predecessor. Godfather 2, I’d say, as good, not necessarily better, than 1. My mind spins with nothing else entering the arena. Maybe “AlienS”? The Rocky series, which maybe should have stopped after R3?
Some people say that “The Empire Strikes Back” was better than “Star Wars.” I don’t feel that way, but that would make it a contender for the sequel-as-good-as-original category.
Men In Black II? Die Hard II? It’s kind of easy when the original is formulaic, not a difficult work of art.
The “Raiders of the Lost Ark” series went straight downhill. James Bond sequels went on a roller coaster ride, ending at ground level. Again, not a high bar to meet. The “Pink Panther” series actually kept up their quality for a couple of sequels, then tanked.
The PP series, yeah, great example. Until, as you said, the one put together posthumously after Peter Sellers died. That series did keep getting better.
