With Kerry’s remarks causing such a firestorm, it’s funny to watch the KosKids scramble for a clue on how to respond. Unable to come up with new ideas, DarKSyde posts this on the front page of the DailyKos:
* VP Dick Cheney – several deferments, by marriage and timely fatherhood.
* Karl Rove, occasional Deputy Chief of Staffand alleged full time smear artist, escaped the draft and did not serve
* Secretary of State and former NSA Condaleeza Rice – did not serve
* Republican Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist – did not serve.
* Republican Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert – did not serve.
* Republican Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay – did not serve.
* Republican Senator John McCain – spent the Vietnam War in a Hilton.
* Rush Limbaugh – did not serve
* Sean Hannity – did not serve
* Ann Coulter – did not serve
* Bill O’Reilly – did not serve
And that’s relevant to this issue… how?
Okay, nitwits, now lets look at a more relevant contrast of these people with John Kerry:
* VP Dick Cheney – did not insult intelligence of troops or accuse them of war crimes.
* Karl Rove – did not insult intelligence of troops or accuse them of war crimes.
* Secretary of State and former NSA Condaleeza Rice – did not insult intelligence of troops or accuse them of war crimes.
* Republican Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist – did not insult intelligence of troops or accuse them of war crimes.
* Republican Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert – did not insult intelligence of troops or accuse them of war crimes.
* Republican Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay -did not insult intelligence of troops or accuse them of war crimes.
* Republican Senator John McCain – did not insult intelligence of troops or accuse them of war crimes.
* Rush Limbaugh – did not insult intelligence of troops or accuse them of war crimes.
* Sean Hannity – did not insult intelligence of troops or accuse them of war crimes.
* Ann Coulter – did not insult intelligence of troops or accuse them of war crimes.
* Bill O’Reilly – did not insult intelligence of troops or accuse them of war crimes.
Just trying to help the nutroots keep things on issue.
UPDATE:
I know some of you are upset, so here is DarkSyde’s e-mail (only those who conform to GroupThink™ are allowed to comment on the DailyKos): DarkSydeOTheMoon@aol.com

So McCain spent the Vietnam war in a Hilton? WTF?!! How low can these people go? Take away their digging implements– the hole keeps getting deeper!
Going by that logic, only those who’ve been in the White House can badmouth the President.
Ah, KosKlowns… they’re all such retards.
ZK,
I think you just stumbled on something there…
My joke didn’t go off very well but it doesn’t matter anyway because as we all know our troops are all a bunch of ignorant rubes who are only in the military because they can’t A) Get into college or B) Get a decent job. This whole thing is being blown out of proportion by the VRC and I will not be Swift Boated again!
Nothing like changing the subject. Is it kosher for me to make fun of Kerry is I haven’t been a senator?
Personally, I would love to let the moonbat “chickenhawk” arguement carry itself out to the fullest. Only allow veterans and current military (wo)men to vote on anything that may impact the military. That would, by the way, eclipse all national elections.
I say go for it. We all know whose side the majority of the military takes, right? Hopefully the first thing they vote for is emasculation of all liberal males since they already are acting it.
I can’t BELIEVE they said that about John McCain!
By the way, did Michael Moore or Cindy Sheehan serve in the military … ? They must have, because they seem to be so well informed on the subject.
I won’t be posting for awhile…Terezza called…I’m grounded ):
“* Republican Senator John McCain – spent the Vietnam War in a Hilton.”
Either the KOStic-kids are being obtuse beyond normal human tolerances or they’re just too @#$&ing young-tarded to know that the Hanoi Hilton wasn’t Paris Hilton’s lonely aunt. Either way I guess their message is the same…John Kerry, self-confessed war criminal and terminally nuanceless buffoon, is the only person in America with the right to free-speech.
I’m stunned about McCain and the Hilton. I seriously think that they actually believe that he stayed at the Hilton in Hanoi. Probably because the Marriot was all booked and he just isn’t going to stay in a Holiday Inn.
They are so historically illiterate that actually makes sense.
And that’s pretty darn scary.
Naa, naa, naa gonna have a good time! Hey! Hey! Hey! Naa, naa, naa, gonna have a good time! We’re gonna sing a song or two, and if you’re not careful you may learn a thing or two! Stay in college don’t be a slack, or your black ass will wind up in Iraq! The Kosby kids wanna add sumpin’ too! The same goes for yo dumb ass white crackers tooo! Naa, naa, naa, gonna have a goood time! Hey! Hey! Hey!
uh… I assume they are talking about Vietnam, not just general service, so here:
* VP Dick Cheney – several deferments, by marriage and timely fatherhood. (What the heck is ‘timely fatherhood’?)
* Secretary of State and former NSA Condaleeza Rice — Was 9 years old
* Republican Senator John McCain – spent the Vietnam War in a Hilton. (This one is just disgusting)
* Sean Hannity — Was 4 years old
* Ann Coulter — Was 4 years old
Well, if you’ll remember the Hilton Hotel chain was the only one that allowed bonus points for the number of nights that you stay there. It just didn’t make sense to stay anywhere else, besides they had a nice poolside Tiki bar just outside my cell, er I mean suite.
Just a heads up, it looks like they removed the McCain reference from that post.
…and it was equiped with lovely “en Suite” facilities too…
I think my head exploded when I read that John McCain spent the whole war in the Hilton. What a moron!
Everyone knows that McCain was in the Ritz-Carlton.
It isn’t commonly known, but Michael Moore DID serve in the military. He was in the Air Force. He had the rank of “Blivet” and was assigned to the 5th Bomb Wing training department.
He made numerous bomb runs at Nellis AFB and is credited with helping some of our finest bomber crews achieve perfect scores on the practice ranges.
In fact it was due to his actions in the service of this nation that the term “Blivet” was created. His commander noted that “This man is the biggest Blivet I have ever seen!”
Unfortunately, Blivet Moore was medically discharged after a bizarre accident involving a broom handle. The reports aren’t clear as to how Blivet Moore suffered the rectal insertion of the implement, but it is believed he slipped on a grease spot in the mess hall while cleaning out the food trays.
evilned,
You are incorrect.
Michael Moore real MOS was officially “Target”.
His secondary skill was in greasing the bomb releases.
“I think my head exploded when I read that John McCain spent the whole war in the Hilton.”
Seconded
Even for Kos that is absolutely mind-boggling in its stupidity.
“Republican Senator John McCain – spent the Vietnam War in a Hilton.”
You know, the more that I think about it – I’m honestly amazed someone who thinks this is smart enough to breathe in and out on a hour to hour basis. Sure–it may not be impressive to you, but it’s remarkable in a “puppy opening up a screen door” sort of way.
I hate to say this, but I really think this was DarkSyde’s version of satirical humor, much like that displayed by his hero, John Kerry…
McCain spent the war in a Hilton, eh? Methinks he would have preferred Gitmo. Dumbass Kossacks…
I hate to say this, but I really think this was DarkSyde’s version of satirical humor, much like that displayed by his hero, John Kerry…
I’d agree if he didn’t delete it afterwards. If you follow the link, it’s now been erased from the post. I think this guy thought up until 8:30 this morning that John McCain spent the Vietnam War in a Hilton.
I once had someone tell me that my service didn’t count because I served only during peacetime. Darn my mom! She didn’t have me early enough for me to be old enough to serve during ‘nam.
And since when did we start calling them netroots? Moonbats is SOOO much more apt.
Come on people, you’re getting the facts of Michael Moore’s military service all mixed up. I suppose its understandable because no one could think someone that obese could have lived this long, but he actually served in WWII. Unimaginatively, he was nicknamed “Fat Man”. And, as Paul Harvey would say, now you know the rest of the story.
DarkSyde was here.
Greetings folks. My thanks to Frank for the link. He’s not a bad sort imo and someone I enjoy reading from time to time. But FJ did get the email wrong. For those of you who’ve been trying to say howdy, I’m always interested in hearing from sincere Republicans and the crazies make for good conversation as well. I think you can just click on my name. If not, the correct addy is on my Dkos homepage.
Sooo, Nutty McLoopy shows up and doesn’t bother to ‘splain the McCain/Hilton nonsense…or his obvious contempt for the concept of free speech? Great! Well, if it comes back around: DS – I hope the whole being-a-drain-on-your-parents-and-society thing works out for you.
Welcome to the Hilton, DarkSyde. I’ll show yout to your room.
Overall, the country seems to do well when power is split. We did well under a democratic WH and GOP ledge, Clinton vs the Repub Rev, we did well with Reagan and Bush 1 during the democratic controlled ledge. It’s not perfect, it’s not a guraunteed law of nature. But it does seem to work OK. And it makes sense to have politicians under intense scrutiny, the kind of scrutiny that comes with more or less evenly divided power–that’s a big part of what democracy is predicated on. If we could somehow flip a switch and turn the tables, have dems controlling all the branches, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if they ended up drinking their own koolaid in some parallel way to what has happened to the GOP, maybe some would become utterly corrupt and shamelessly feather their own nest. This is human nature and it’s not confined to any party or ideology.
If you took Iraq out of the equation, I think it’s arguable that Bush would be doing anywhere from acceptable to really well. Had there been a democratic majority in both houses, he might have been prevented from going into Iraq, and that would have been good for all of us imo.
Iraq is a tragedy for our nation as surely as it is a potential tragedy for the GOP, and for the same reasons in both cases. For the nation, I don’t think there is any good way out of it. It was a mistake made by in part by idealists, some of whom may have had noble intentions, but a colosal blunder nevertheless.
Any political ideology has it’s share of delusion and spin. But that pragmatic realism, that respect for empirical data and logical inference, is something I admired about the GOP, it’s a big part of the reason I considered myself more Repub than Dem at one time. And the loss of it is why I no longer consider myself one: I’d trade about 10 Dubya’s and raise you a hundred Rummy’s for either of Bush 1 or Reagan right now.
Just part of that complex realism is that Saddam was an offset to Iran. And Iran is a much larger threat to stability in the region, to the world’s energy/economy, and therefore to us, than a post Gulf War Saddam ever was. The fact is, we have taken out a secular Tyrant who was no threat to us and who was a thorn in the side of the Jihadists and the Shiites. We have weakened ourselves in the process; at the expense of our nation’s unity, our national treasury, and the life and limb of way too many of our best and brightest. If a democratic had made a blunder of this magnitiude I suspect many of you here would be screaming for his head, and rightly so.
Guys, I have no idea what the Hilton reference is about. I didn’t mention McCain at all in the piece Frank linked. Is it possible some here are reading the parady Frank wrote and confusing it with I wrote on Dkos? If it means something to the effect that being a POW was somehow easy, I do know that I didn’t say it in my article, I don’t think I’ve ever said or implied it or anything like it anywhere, ever. I can’t recall ever even thinking it at any point in my life.
Anyway, I appreciate the chance to bend your ear and the link.
Dick Cheney is not Jesus Christ.
Of course not…he’s Mohammed.
I always thought he was Luke’s father.
No, no, you have obviously confused Mohammad with Darth Vader…easy enough to do I suppose.
Well…
Jesus Christ is no Dick Cheney!!!
-Unless you count the time he shot Judas in the face with a shotgun.
… and that time he said: “Blessed are the meek — they make our job so much easier.”
I like Dick Cheney…he shot a lawyer, and got away with it.
