No, Virginia, We’re Not Nazis

I hope you’re all happy. You made Durbin cry.
I was in the “an apology isn’t enough” crowd, but to see him there eating all his words and defenses of his words has taken a bit of the wind out of me. Actually, it seem like we succeeded in neutering him. Perhaps he’ll have to give back his award.
Thanks go to Mayor Richard Daley for being the only prominent Democrat to codemn Durbin’s remarks. It’s probably notable that Daley’s son is in the Army.
In a somewhat related note, in a conference I’ll be attending soon I may have an opportunity to speak to George Clooney. Do you think I’d be crossing the line to tell him that the move Batman and Robin was worse than the Holocaust?
I liked Ocean’s 11, though.

  1. That was not an apology for what he said. Durbin did not say he was wrong. He again said he was sorry that I am so stupid as to be offended by what he said, and that he’ll keep that in mind in the future (as any good politician would).
Probably right that it’s effectively over politically and he’ll get a pass because people like me would never have voted for him in the first place.

  2. His half-assed apology was half-assed.
“Poor choice of words. Sorry if you took it the wrong way.”
    Bullshit.
He was wrong and I will boycott Illinois until that son of a bitch is voted out of office or resigns, and I have family there.
I also have a seat from old Comiskey Park that I was going to sell on e-bay, but only Hitler, Stalin or Pol-Pot would be interested in it, and they’re dead.

  3. I have to agree, seeing Durbin cry did make me somewhat forgive him. As for this conference thingy you’re attending Frank, what is it about? Will you remember to pimp the blog while you’re there?
    Gunlord

  4. Last night on the Chicago News, they reported that, according to political insiders, Daley’s statements condemning Durbin were the main factor motivating his pseudo-apology.
Even though the Illinois GOP is a joke right now (thank you George Ryan and Jack Ryan/Alan Keyes), there is no way a democrat can win anything in Illinois without the support of the Chicago Democratic Machine.
The only thing Durbin regrets about his words is that they angered Daley.
His political motivation makes his phony apology even more disgusting.
The worst part of this mess is that Illinois has turned so blue, that we’ll probably be stuck with him until he’s old and senile.

  5. Tears don’t mean squat. Jimmy Swaggert cried like a baby at his “apology.” I remember noting that the very FIRST thing Swaggert did was to grab a microphone. What a phony. Durbin, too.

  6. “He was wrong and I will boycott Illinois until that son of a bitch is voted out of office or resigns, and I have family there.”
Hell, I live in Illinois and I’ve been boycotting the state.
When you know your life is a living hell:
Being represented by Dickie Durbin, Barack Obama & Jesse Jackson Jr.

  7. Daley deserves Gitmo as much as every other lousy Democrat in the Senate. He’s a thief and a scumbag (and that’s being nice.) Purple Raider, I so feel your pain. There is no joy in the 44th Ward of Chicago these days.

  8. Durbin’s apology was utter crapola, He didn’t once take responsiblity for saying the wrong thing, he said “I’m sorry you were offended.” That’s it, I’m offended and that’s ALL he felt bad about, that I didn’t like what he said. Well, screw him and continue to F-up his email. Keep emailing him, put it in the subject line, “Durbin you are an asshole, and your crapola apology is not accepted.”
    TEEEEEEJ
